  1. Didn't you already have a couple of these guys in your tank couple months ago?

Here is a Pic of the little Guy I got from Sean.

He is so small. I get scared in the mornings cause he hides behind the black trim of the tank and he is so small I dont see him. He is doing great. And cant wait for Sean to get more of these little guys in so I can get a tank mate.

  2. I have my 125 gal, 72" on the second floor. I have it against the wall, with no additional support structure below. So far so good, with no problem

It's always a good idea to have additional support below though. Including rock, sump, equipments, you are looking at around 1500 lbs concentrate to a 48x24x24 foot print. With an unfinished basement, I would assume this house is not more than 10 years old. The bigger = the better. Add some additional support if you can for the peace of mind :lol2:

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

So I'm replacing my 75 gallon acrylic tank and I was going to go with the same size only in glass and oriented to be placed horizontally against a wall.

Then I got to browsing around and found out that I could get a 48x24x24 (mine is a 36x24x20) for a whopping $60 more. I feel obligated to pull the trigger on this, but I'm concerned about the weight on the second floor of my place. Luckily the room beneath it is an unfinished basement, so if need be I could probably add some additional support (although I have no idea how to do this).

Is this a good idea or should I just stick with a 75 gallon tank? The new one would be a 120 gallon.

  3. It is not colt coral or carnation. I have it for about a month now.

    Tee

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

Possibly part of this family, Dendronepthea. Carnation flower comes in my different variety of colors: red, pink, orange, white. The shape of the polyps/flower, depending on the color type of the carnation flower.

    http://www.marinecenter.com/corals/coralss...carnationcoral/

AQUACO currently has one in orange color.

If Tee has more than 6 months and thriving, then it's not Dendronepthea and probably a cold coral. The carnation coral is a difficult coral to keep. Although, it's nonphotosynthetic, it's hard to care for because of its feeding requirement. Most just slowly thin out, slowly shrink to disappearance about 4-6 months after purchase.

There was an article on advanceaquarist that posted under RC, two months back, if my memory serves me right.

Very pretty colorful soft coral, abundant and not expensive on market. Just hard to keep.

  4. Hi all,

My tank is pass it's one year birthday. I have a lot of coralline now. Unfortunately, most of it grow on my glass, and overflow, WTH? The rock still not have as much coraline as I wanted. I used a credit card to scrap it off, but it's so hard to get it out of my glass. What do you guy use to clean the coralline off your glass tank. I am afraid to use something that will scratch my glass.

Man, with the saltwater tank, stuff that I want to grow, don't grow. Stuff like bad Anemone, and red slime algae grow like weed.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

I read something on here where someone said they had read on RC that someone else had said that purple up was just coralline in water... Confused enough?

Just use a scraper and scrape upwards and catch what is removed on your hand. Sprinkle this on your rock and it should grow just fine. Or, find someone with a dense growth of it and see if you can simply flake it off. By the way, I don't think there's really a difference between base and live rock, it's all alive. The difference is really just nomenclature (hope I'm using that right!). Base rock has a tendency to be heavier, denser, and not as pretty to look at, so people generally use it underneath to support their structures, hence, base rock.

  5. He always hide in the rock. I'll try the light off method. Thanks a lot for the suggestion.

I agree with the lights out option. I recently removed the Sohal out of the tank when I turned off the lights suddenly and confused the fish. I was then very easy to remove the fish with a net. John

  6. I use Diatom for my fresh water too. I use it to take out the waste on the bottom of the tank. I don't bother put the powder in the filter anymore. This is great for freshwater clean up. I don't want to use the power for my saltwater, eventhough they say it save.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

I used to use one frequently with my 210 african cichlid tank and still will on occasion run it with my SW tank. Occasionally if I am re-aquascaping or want to blast the rocks with a power head remove any waste I will turn off my main pump and use the diatom filter for a couple of hours. It is amazing how quickly it pulls all the garbage out.

  7. I think he meant 20$ for Wamas membership fee. I also think that it is the smartest 20$ I spent in this hobby. I am sure you can get some freebie coral from Wamas member. I just started too, and I got a bunch of freebie coral, and some that I paid about 5, or 10$ while I would have to pay about 50+ at a LFS. If you pay 20$ to join Wamas member, you can see the "For Sale" section. There are a bunch of freebie coral here and now.

I paid my $20 at the last fragfest at the middle school... is that what you are refering to?

  8. I guess he is mean because he was in a 55 with the other two Devil. He should be fine in my 125. I only have one oscar and two small cichlid. We'll see if you he is mean enough for my oscar. Let see who kick who ass, lol. Can I stop by this Saturday around 3pm? Please give me your number and address. I am sure I can house three of your Red Devil in my 125. I can take it off your hand now, and whoever want the other two, can stop by my place and get it later. If not, I'll bring them to Supper Pet (not that far from my house).

the biggest is like 5" or 6" and the other to are about 3 or 4". you want something larger or smaller?

you can come by sooner rather than later and pick the one you prefer. though i will say the largest is the meanest but they live together in a 55 so he will likely be happy

  9. I have a 125gal, with one Oscar about 6" now, and a couple of small cichlids. I'll take one Devil of your hand if you want to get rid of. How big are they now?

    Thanks,

    Tee

i have 3 red devil cichlids i want to get rid of. does anyone know a place that might take them. i called scales and aquarium one so they are out. any others?

  10. I agree, great guy. I bought a used Mag 7, and he offer me some free Zoos that I didn't even ask for.

Thanks Luceneck and what's up with avatar? I thought you are an Asian dude, lol.

    ------------------

Just wanted to publically thank Luceneck for the door-to-door delivery service of a replacement part for my broken return pump last night. He graciously took time drop off the part to me late last night as I was unable to get out of the house (I was on baby duty).

Also thanks to Emissary for his offer of a spare part as well.

This is the kind of thing that makes membership to this club so worth it!

    Thanks again!

  11. Hi,

I just wondering how do people who have a 72" long tank light their aquarium using T5. Do you use 36" or 48" lamp? How many row? And can you put retrofit T5 in the Canope. Anybody around Springfield, and Burke have a 72" gal tank, and use retrofit T5, I would love to stop by a check it out.

Thank you very much in advance.

  12. The skimmer produce the swirling or tonado effect in the center tube. The trouble shoot pdf suggest to check the plastic baffle that breaks the cyclonic action of the micing chamber. It might fallen out the center tube. What is the plastic baffle look like? Is that the same as the "Air Retuner Skirt"?

Also, Do you have the "Venturi cone" between your 1/2" hose barb and the flextube hose? I open up my pump, and I don't see the Venturi Key, and Venturi Cone. Am I suppose to have one? This is a used skimmer, so I don't know if it should have one or not.

THanks a lot for all the help,

    Tee

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

I run this skimmer and it's very finicky, I also drilled some holes in the intake sleeve to get more. Are you getting air through the airline? You should hear air sucking through the open airline, if you put your finger to stop airflow bubbles should disipate in the skimmer column and you should get more flow out of the outputs. If you have plenty of airflow, it could be the plastic square piece (I don't what it's called) in the skimmer body could have fallen out. This piece, about 1 1/2" square, breaks up the bubble flow and keeps the bubbles from just swirling around in the body. Whenever I clean my skimmer this piece always becomes dislodged and can be difficult to position properly. It goes down the middle of the inner column and should be positioned right at the bottom of the column. My Berlin Turbo is an older model so I don't if yours is setup the same way.

  13. I am close to your place, if you need me anytime in after 6pm, any day. It doesn't have to be on Wednesday. Check your schedules and let me know.

My lease is up so the dreaded time has come for me to move my tank. I'm looking for one maybe two people that wouldn't mind helping me out. I'm going from Burke to Annandale with my 20 gal so it won't be too bad I just would rather have some help. I have a lot of corals that I could frag for beginners (mostly softies) so if you have a new tank this would be a good way to get it stocked and help me out at the same time. Also, if you have a van/truck that I can use that would be a bonus. Just shoot me a PM and thanks in advance!

    I'll buy breakfast!

  14. Hi all,

I have been trying to play around with this skimmer for two months now, and have no success with it. The Skimmer is stand outside of my sump. The pump is in my sump, with the water outflow return to my sump.

At first when I first installed it, it produce foam, and I can adjust the air and pump to control the foam level. Now the foam wouldn't go up the collection cup anymore. I open clean the pump, and skimmer, but still have no luck.

Anybody use this skimmer that can help me correct it?

    Thanks a lot in advance,

    Tee

PS: The skimmer is a used skimmer. My house close to the intersection of Burke Lake and Braddock.

  15. Mine didn't open until a day later. How long did you aclimate your Feather Duster? I did a drip aclimate for 45min, and it is fine a couple days later.

    -----------------------------------

If it hasnt opened in a couple of days will most LFS replace it or give a refund or is it kind of a loss if it never opens

  16. Humm, I am a little confuse here. You mean the put a whole fixture with multiple lamps under a canope? That's not what I want to do. I want o custom made 5 or 6 rows of T5 under my 72" canope. I wonder how people retrofit their 72" long canope with T5. Anybody? How many row of T5 can you put in a 24" deep canope? Six and no more?

Any other link to a DIY canope and retrofit light?

    http://www.reeffrontiers.com/forums/showth...ighlight=canopy

    Thanks

    Tee

    -------------------------------------------------------------

interrupting here for a sec. The pre-made T-5 fixtures say on them to not use them under a canopy - is that only because they are in a fixture and there might be too much heat for a fixture in a closed space?

  17. Thanks a lot for the help. I think two lines of 36" it is then. What is the recomemdation space between each light? For a 24" deep, how many row of T5 can I use.

    Thanks,

    Tee

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

Two line of 36" bulbs, or stagger 60" bulbs, or if the tank is 24" wide you could do up to 24-24" bulbs run front to back as opposed to side to side.

    Garrett.

  18. Hi,

I am thinking about building a canope for my 125gal. I am not sure what is the best way to retrofit the lighting in the canope. Should I use two line of 36" T5 lamps, or one line of 72" lamps.

Does anybody in the Springfield area have this canope with retrofit light that I can stop by and take a look, please PM me.

Thanks a lot for the help in advance,

    Tee
