I assume you are all with the over-simplified way of determining stocking limits by adding up fish-inches and limiting to one inch per every four gallons for the first year, and up to once inch every two gallons after that.
I am starting to stock my new tank and placed a larger order than I would have had it not been for combined shipping from an internet site. I am only adding about 6-8 fish-inches to my 40g tank (really more like 35-37g), but I also bought a lot of crabs, snails, and stars to clean house. Specifically:
Fish:
2 Yellow Headed Jawfish
2 Blue Neon Cleaner Gobies
Parasite Eaters:
2 Gold Banded Coral Shrimp
Scum Eaters:
5 Astrea Snails
2 Turbo Snails
5 Nerite virginea
2 Blue Leg Hermit Crabs
1 White Claw Hermit Crab
2 Sally Lightfoot Crabs
1 Serpent Star
1 Red Brittle Star
10 Micro Stars (Brittle)
3 Emerald Mithrix Crab
2 Ruby Mithrix Crabs
5 Stocky Cerith Snails
Most of these guys are tiny, but all together they might add up. How do I count them against my total fish-inches?
All but two turbos and two blug-legged hermits that are already in the tank arrive on Wednesday.
