  1. Thanks for the help. I think I'll have to upgrade pumps. I've already posted a wanted ad for a Mag 9.5! I adjusted the return gait on the skimmer, and the unit is filling up fine now, just not too many bubbles. I think that may be due to the pump size. I'll keep an eye on it for a few days and see if anyone replies to my post for the mag 9.5
  2. Hello all, I came upon a used AquaC EV-180 protein skimmer. I was originally using a AquaC Remora skimmer, which was doing great, but i couldn't resist this deal for an upgrade.... Question - Does anyone have one of these, and if so, I am concerned that mine is not set up right. I have it outside the sump, and it's currently on a 500gph (I know they recommend 700) pump. I have the return valve open on the other side of the system, which drains into my refugium. I am not getting any foam inside the unit. It seems that it just pumps right in one side, and drains back from the other side. Am I doing something wrong? Any help? comments? -Ben
  3. Hello all, This question is pretty simple. I have a 55gal tank, and I want to know if it's ok to remove that plastic cross-bar on top of the tank. It doesn't seem to support the tank in any way, it just gets in my way when I'm cleaning/feeding/breaking stuff. Thanks -ben
  4. Well I am definitely interested. Let me know what you can do for me. Preferably ASAP, but whenever you get a chance Thanks! -Ben
  5. Please help me... While working on my 20g glass sump today, the side of the tank cracked... bad. Thinking about it now, it was kinda funny. I ran to the basement as quick as possible to get silicone sealant and a big piece of acrylic to cover the crack in attempt to patch the leak. You'd have thought my house was on fire, how quick I was moving. Anyways.... I need a replacement sump ASAP!!! If anyone has a spare sump around 20g they're willing to part with/sell, let me know. Or, if there's someone who can build me one pretty cheap, that's an option as well. I don't have a lot of time though! Thanks! Ben
  6. nah... Couldn't convince the woman to come out, so it'll just be me. She's hanging out with her girlfriend instead. hehe
  7. Howard I'll definitely be there. Any room to bring my girlfriend along? trying to convince her to pick up the hobby....
  8. I've had my 55gal tank for two years now, but I still don't seem to know too much about how everything works... I'm learning slowly! I've had a Hair Algae problem for almost a year now. I keep scrubbing rocks, cleaning out the tank, doing water changes... I can clean it DOWN for a few days/weeks, but it keeps coming back. Using RO/DI for water changes, nitrate is 0, phosphate is under .1 (don't have anything that measures less than that). I've decided it's time to build a refugium. I hear it is an excellent way to combat nuisance algae in the main tank by suffocating it. I'm a college student... so money is an issue. Here's my question: I have a 20Gal sump that just has a protein skimmer, heater, and return pump. I recently got an 2x18w PC light that is 13" and fits beautifully over the sump tank to make a refugium. What other supplies am I going to need? just some sand/mud and live rock? Should I try to get some critters for this tank? Are there any precautions I should take before setting this up? Thanks Ben
