Thank you! I test for Calcium and Alkalinity with my Hanna checkers. I do have kalk, but I’ve never used it. In my small display I control it through water changes.I’m going to keep the lights off and the lid on while it’s cycling. This is the first skimmer I’ve ever used so I decided to learn how to use it when no lives were at stake. The tank is cycling without lights aside from the refugium light. I’m growing the Chaeto because I want to see if it can prevent/eliminate a large nitrate spike after the cycle is complete. Will it prolong the cycle? Will it shorten it? Will there be no effect? I suspect it will prolong your cycle, or at the least lead you to inaccurate numbers when trying to determine what stage it's in.
