sturnmeyer March 26, 2006 March 26, 2006 Has anyone done their own auto-topoff system. I have a 30g with the skimmer and fuge in the cabinet below, so space is a huge issue.
YBeNormal April 4, 2006 April 4, 2006 I built this one: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthre...25&pagenumber=1 If you can follow schematics and are familiar with the basics of electricity, you can customize the design quite a bit. I went with redundant float switches in the sump so the backup switch will turn off the ATO pump if the primary switch fails. The switch in the ATO reservoir wired to a buzzer is a nice feature since I sometimes forget to refill the top-off container. I am using a tall/narrow pet food container for the reservoir right now but I have also used smaller 1/2 to 1 gallon containers. Any container that will hold water and fit into your stand will work.
Charlie97L April 4, 2006 April 4, 2006 i got the kit from floatswitches.net it's great, i'm still looking for a suitable container, just like you... i'm eyeing that rubbermaid wrapping paper holder, i'm trying to get about a 5 gallon capacity for my 58RR system. the kit is very straightforward, comes with everything you need, minus a pump, and tubing. i'm running mine off of a 9V battery, which is supposed to be good for about 5000 top offs.
