Sump Sponge Filters

Hi,

 

I am looking to replace the sponges (Foam filter block) in my sump. They measure 1.5" x 5.5" x 13" and they appear medium coarse in texture and are whitish in color. Where can I but these around here? I bought the originals from Life Reef when I purchased my LifeReef compact sump system about a year ago.

The only place I've been able to find them is Lifereef.

Quite a few options. First check @ the local PetCo/PetSmart - the Aquaclear blocks should be close to that size (the 70's are 5-1/4" x 3-1/2" x 2"). You can order these & other filterblocks online. Also, MarineScene used to carry filter blocks - check in the "ask a vendor forum" (maybe others do). You can easily make up the length difference by putting 2 together.

 

Size isn't relevant - simple to custom make. Take said block, rinse with water, and shove in the freezer for a couple of hours.

 

Remove - when frozen you can easily cut/shape them to any size needed (they stay rigid). A serrrated knife works well, an electric knife is superb.
