Mollies in the reef tank

I have a friend out west who is using mollies for algae control. Big tank (220gal), lots of fish and inverts and 25 mollies for algae control.  he tells me they eat more than the tank can produce so he feeds them taxifolia. They are a fragile fish in freshwater but he has told me that in salt they are bulletproof. He also said that they spawn (monthly) at a very level providing the other fish with a tasty meal.

 

Do any of our group have experience with these fish in saltwater.

I used to keep a couple of black mollies in a 55 gal fish only- I would use them for feeding the anenome, but never had them have babies in salt- they have live babies like guppies rather than eggs- I have bred them in fresh though. They are good feeders for an agressive Fish aquarium as they can survive the salt and stay alive lnger than most any other feeders from the fresh water environment.

Kept them upstream for a herd of WC seahorses.  I found the large natural color sailfins to be most tolerant of water conditions and produce the best.

 

fwiw:  they are durable in FW as well if you keep the pH high enough, otherwise cancel Christmas.

I cycled my first FO tank with them.  With the right amount of acclimation, they will do fine.
