I picked up some generic cement used for pvc, cpvc, abs and then added a little MEK to thin it. Seems to be working.

Weld-on #4052 is what we use. It has a slight yellow tint to it, but the bond is very solid. Use it when you need a reliable watertight joint. For everything else, what you describe above should work.

If there will be any pressure on the joint I would use a bulkhead or uniseal. If you glue it and it stresses it could crack.

This is actually an attachment point on a skimmer for the exhaust tubing (transitions from acrylic to pvc) that had broken off in shipping. It was a clean break, easily matched back up, so I left it and tried to re-attach. Seems solid so far.
