ajhuynh August 29, 2012 August 29, 2012 hello WAMAS, I just recently think about getting back into this amazing hobby. That being said, I am still a newbie and it was a long time ago.. technology has been changed a lot (hurray to LED!!!) anyways, I just bought a 75g deepblue RR tank. I was just wondering what is a good sump and in-sump skimmer to get?! Can you give me the best one for the money products? I wanted to custom built a tank and a sump, however seems like it's a challenge to do so, cutting/gluing 1/2 acrylic isn't fun. Thanks in advance!
OldReefer August 29, 2012 August 29, 2012 I think you are going to get a lot of similar answers, but I will be the first to suggest an Avast CS1. They are great skimmers, compact, and affordable. In addition they are a local product from a couple club members that have built a successful international business. If you are watching costs, you can buy the skimmer as a kit. It goes together easily in a couple hours spread over two days.
nbgen12 September 3, 2012 September 3, 2012 The sump depends on whether you want it inside the stand or not. If it's inside the stand, I'm not sure you'll fit anything bigger than a 29g. If you want one outside the stand, I'd go with a 40g breeder. Petco is doing a $1 per gallon aquarium sale right now so if you want to build your own sump, now is definitely the time to run to petco! Building the sump yourself really isn't tough. You can get glass cut at Lowe's for a pretty cheap price (cheaper than buying acrylic and cutting it yourself). As for the skimmer, I don't have any worthy input since I have an aqua c remora pro....works alright, but leaves a bit to be desired IMO. I do hear great things about Avast.
hypertech September 3, 2012 September 3, 2012 I use a 20L as a sump for my 75g. There are lots of slimmer choices. I'm fussy about noise so I went with a Vertex Alpha 170.
