mogurnda August 4, 2012 August 4, 2012 Hey all, I just fixed the last of the damage from a really dumb thing I did. During one of the many power outages lately, I had redirected the output of my return to aim a little higher. When the power came back on, I didn't check on it for a while, ann the nozzle had shot saltwater all over the den. Nailed the floor, bookshelves, and worst of all, the desk where the keyboard, mouse and powerstrip for the desktop computer were sitting. After a few hours of cleanup, I pulled the hard drive out to be sure it was still alive, and managed to back up everything. Also replaced the mouse and keyboard. Today I sat down and got the computer to restore itself. In the end, I managed to save almost everything, despite the absolute disaster I had caused. Note to self, don't mix computers and saltwater, and especially be careful where the loc-line is pointed. Just curious, has anybody shown equally bad judgment?
Fishie August 4, 2012 August 4, 2012 (edited) I had mine shoot up in the air once too... I have also had the drain not able to keep up with my siphon rate resulting flooding a small section And several other silly effups.... So I have asked my wife to always be around to prevent such stuff from happening...but she refused lol I think my son will eventually be able to help me...but ATM all he is interested in is pulling the wire underneath a vortech to get my attention and make me mad...but he isn't even 2 so I will just have to let it pass Edited August 4, 2012 by Fishie

It has taught me a lot about redundancy, though
JLW August 5, 2012 August 5, 2012 If it makes you feel any better, I've done this, too. Either when first putting the new line in and not paying enough attention, or when I've moved it up to clean around it, and then turned it back on before putting it back down. Of course... I've always been there when I did it, with enough time to use profanity, unplug, and fix. I do have a freshwater tank with some very, very large chocolate cichlids that like to play with the end of their return line. They've aimed it straight down, from one side to the other, but have never pointed it up. Yet.
davelin315 August 5, 2012 August 5, 2012 I have turned on quite a few pumps in the past while holding the return line out of the water... pointed at myself...
JLW August 5, 2012 August 5, 2012 That's actually a fix it technique I use for pumps that have stopped working. Disconnect the return line, aim pump at face. Instantly starts working every time.
