schenktank February 27, 2012 Share February 27, 2012 i havent made my own saltwater in a while. i usually just buy it from the lfs i go to. they use IO salt. i have the same salt and decided to make it myself again because their salinity was at 1.023 at the lfs. i just took measurements and my salinity is at 1.025 but my ph was really low...7.4ish. the Ph in my tank right now s 8.1-2 hard to tell i have api test kits. doesnt seem right to me... is this going to shock everything if i do a 30 percent water change? if so what should i do to get it up before i change the water. surf&turf February 27, 2012 Share February 27, 2012 (edited) If you just mixed up the water, give it 24 hours and check it again, it should be closer to whats in your tank. Just leave a powerhead in it to keep it circulating. Edited February 27, 2012 by surf&turf

RubberFrog February 27, 2012 Share February 27, 2012 Did you stir the powder before you used it? Salt mix will separate over a time. All the calcium might be sitting in the bottom of the bucket. Or vice versa.
