I've completed both saltwater and reef tests. Everything checks out so far but I had a couple of questions.

I have a 55 gallon setup with a decent skimmer and two power heads. I have both live rock and sand. The tank has been cycling for almost five months along with a cleanup crew. I just ordered a 48'' T5 setup to upgrade from a home made power compact setup.

First question, is my carbonate too high at 179?

Second, my calcium is approximately 460. What is ideal to see my rocks turn purple?

Thanks, Jeff

Not sure what carbonate at 179 means. Most of us check alkalinity with a Salifert test. With that Ca level you would expect to see an alkalinity of about 11dkh. Your rocks should go purple at this levels with a little light.

You are probably fine to add coral if you have enough light. I would start with something simple like polyps.

Thanks Reefer!

My new lights will be in on wednesday. I also plan on throwing in a few frags. Can't wait!! :)

10 DKH = 178 PPM

The test kit that the OP using reads in Part Per Million.

Yes, thanks for the clarification. 10 DKH, 178 PPM.
