Cheers Mike Lionfish Internship Available - Biscayne National Park in Homestead, FL is seeking to fill a year-long internship position to assist in the implementation of its Lionfish Management Plan. The intern will work with staff biologists, technicians, and other interns to: 1) identify and remove lionfish throughout various park habitats, 2) conduct habitat assessments to determine environmental preferences of lionfish, 3) complete lab analyses on collected specimens, 4) maintain the park’s lionfish database, and 5) participate in outreach and educational activities to educate the public about lionfish. Although lionfish-related work will make up the bulk of the intern’s tasks, the opportunity to participate in other resource management activities (such as sea turtle nest monitoring, reef fish and invertebrate monitoring, recreational creel surveys, and injured wildlife response) will be provided. Applicant must be comfortable working in the water, must be SCUBA certified from a recognized dive program (e.g. PADI, NAUI, SSI, YMCA), and must be willing to enter the National Park Service (NPS) dive program. Experience operating and working from small boats is preferred. *****Due to limited housing availability, Biscayne National Park is only able to recruit female applicants at this time.***** The internship is through the American Conservation Experience (ACE). ACE will provide staff support and administration, payroll services, worker's comp, health insurance, commercial general liability insurance, and an ACE uniform. The NPS will provide supervision and oversight, necessary training/certification including entry into the NPS dive program and motorboat operation training, dive gear, field equipment, and personal protective equipment. Park housing (dorm-style setting) will be provided; the provided housing is located on site at Biscayne National Park. The intern will receive a $110 per week stipend, paid bi-weekly, as well as a $700 one-time transportation/relocation expense payment. What you need to do is take my Coral Reef Ecology class at Mason, remotely. Another at your school is doing it, and we can transfer the credits... Just sayin'.... Just have the scuba cert in hand...
