BowieReefer84 November 10, 2010 Share November 10, 2010 How do I use a multimeter to test LED connections or any others? Please tell me like I am a 5th grader . . .or even a 1st grader. THANK YOU! This is what I am trying to test (The solder free connections have a small hole on top to test) --->>>
Guest thefishman65 November 10, 2010 Share November 10, 2010 (edited) Diodes only conduct electricity in one direction. Some meters supply enough electricity (when measuring ohms) to very dimly light the LED (ligher emitting diode). So if it does not light in one direction try reversing where the leads are. If this does not work get 2 AA batteries and they should make the LED light. Once you get the LED to light you can move the connection off the pads and to the holes in the connector if that works try the holes at the other end of the wire. So you test wire->connection->led->connection->wire. Does your meter have a diode check function? Edited November 10, 2010 by thefishman65

Guest thefishman65 November 11, 2010 Share November 11, 2010 That should light the LED in one direction and not the other. Does it?
BowieReefer84 November 11, 2010 Author Share November 11, 2010 Check out my build thread. It works now. The starboard was marked wrong on a single LED. It had + where the - should have been on all three spots . . . o well. Mistakes happen, and it works now. Multimeter was key!!!
