Gatortailale February 20, 2005 Share February 20, 2005 Howdy all! We are hiring! We are currently seeking a full time candidate for The Marine Scene. This is an entry level position with the intent of this person to train and develop into a managerial position. Our managers earn an excellent salary with paid vacation, 401K, company paid health plan, generous discounts and performance based bonuses. If you are interested in a fun, busy and educational work experience, don't hesitate to give us a call. If you would like to be considered please fax, e-mail or bring in your resume or work history. WHAT'S NEW? Finally back in stock are the two-part ESV Calcium and Alkalinity Buffers in 2-gallon and 64oz sizes. We have a full stock so if you do not see them on our shelves please check with a sales associate. We have a cute little Two-Spot Blenny in stock. These guys have a neat personality and are great for smaller reef tanks. We also have Green Chromis, Royal Gramma's and Six Line wrasse back in stock. We received a shipment of over 80 corals on Tuesday including two "Green Slimers" (aka. Acropora Staghorns), small metallic orange and neon green Plate corals, lots of Torch, Ridge Hammer and leather corals as well as some really nice Bubble and Pearl corals. New shipments of Tonga, Fiji and Lalo live rock have also arrived. WHAT'S ON SALE? We hope all of you who needed live rock took advantage of our double shipment sale and if not, no worries because we are putting it on sale again. All Tonga Live Rock, originally priced at $7.99 per pound, is on sale at $7.29 per pound for 1 to 49 pounds. Purchase 50+ pounds and take an additional 50 cents off each pound making it only $6.79 per pound. Take 10% off all powder and crystal Seachem products. Powder and crystal trace elements and buffers are great for larger tanks because they are more concentrated so you don't use as much in turn lasting longer. Take 20% off Seachem Renew, a carbon substitute which does not leak phosphates. All brands of Kalkwasser are 20% off as well. DID YOU KNOW? Did you know that there is a difference between "cured" and "uncured" live rock? When live rock is harvested from the ocean, it is likely that there are several critters residing in and on that rock. Everything from sponge to starfish to crabs have been found on fresh batches of rock. However, the live rock is shipped to stores in wet newspaper, which means the most delicate of the organisms living on the rock will not survive the trip. So, the curing process is the period of time it takes for those more delicate organisms to die off and be broken down naturally by the bacteria that inhabits the pores of the rock. When adding rock to an existing, established aquarium, try to find cured rock or cure the rock yourself at home. All live rock needs to cure is saltwater and circulation and temperature control. Use a container like a fish safe bucket and a small power head, fill it with saltwater, set up your power head and heater and wait. Changing the water in the bucket and scrubbing the rock may speed along the process. In a new set up, adding uncured rock gives you the benefit of starting a natural nitrogen cycle and the chance of hitch hikers which can be interesting. So now you know, and knowing is half of the battle. Hope to see you in this weekend!
