Drs. Foster & Smith's LiveAquaria.com to Open Coral Farm in Wisconsin

-----------------------------------------------------------------

RHINELANDER, WI - Aquarists nationwide will soon have an environmentally friendly source for buying "farmed" coral fragments for their aquariums. Drs. Foster & Smith's new, state-of-the-art coral propagation facility, expected to be operating in late Spring 2005, will provide reef hobbyists a reliable, year-round supply of vibrant, fast-growing coral fragments through its LiveAquaria.com website.

Aquacultured (farmed) corals offer the industry and hobbyists numerous advantages, according to LiveAquaria.com director, Kevin Kohen, the most important of which is reducing the pressure on the world's coral reefs as home reef aquariums grow in popularity. "We are committed to the self-sustaining principles that aquaculturing provides the aquarium hobby, and our new coral farm is being built upon that foundation,"

Kohen said. The new high-tech facility will allow careful monitoring of all environmental controls to ensure the brood stock, as well as the fragments (frags) sold to customers, are of optimal health. In addition, the new facility's Midwest location will reduce shipping time for a significant percentage of aquarists, resulting in faster acclimation of the frags and quicker growth.

The new facility will employ the most sophisticated technology in lighting, filtration, water movement, and quarantine systems to ensure the hardiest and disease-free coral selection for home aquariums. Drs. Foster & Smith's staff of aquatic experts, diagnostic specialists, and veterinarians will personally oversee the health of each coral frag, and strict standards are in place to protect hobbyists from the common marine parasites currently plaguing home-operated coral frag traders.

Parent stock for the farm will consist of the fastest growing and most vibrant generations of coral, combining previously established specimens with varieties personally selected by Kohen from select importers nationwide. He will be traveling on research and acquisition trips to Fiji prior to the facility's grand opening this Spring.

Drs. Foster & Smith's LiveAquaria.com website is the nation's leading source for "direct-to-your-door" delivery of a wide variety of aquatic life, including live marine and freshwater fish, invertebrates, corals, live rock, and aquarium plants.

The site also contains extensive species-specific information as well as articles on the care and maintenance of home aquariums and aquatic life. To visit the LiveAquaria.com website, log on to www.LiveAquaria.com.

The expansion of this business has been pretty amazing.  It will be interesting to see how this effort goes. Gotta love the fact that it will minimize shipping costs and time for us!
