tygger March 16, 2010 Share March 16, 2010 Is there a spot on this coral where I shouldn't cut? It's about 6-7" and I'm thinking of cutting it near the root to give to a friend. It has a pretty thick base, about 1" in diameter. Or if I wanted to cut it in half, would that be ok also? I'm not talking about cutting just a branch off, but instead almost directly in half from the main stem.
ctenophore March 16, 2010 Share March 16, 2010 If it is healthy and growing, which it seems to be from the photo, you can cut them any which way and they will be fine. I suggest cotton thread to attach them to rocks. Just firmly wrap it around a few times and a dot of superglue to hold the thread ends together and you're done. tygger March 16, 2010 Author Share March 16, 2010 Thanks. I was worried that cutting off a thick section might kill it.
ctenophore March 16, 2010 Share March 16, 2010 Thanks. I was worried that cutting off a thick section might kill it. If you cut too close to the base, sometimes the base won't regenerate. But the main part you cut off should be fine. Lots of flow and clean water are key for healing.
