Grav July 9, 2003 Share July 9, 2003 I've had this tank for over a year and this little Clown was my 1st marine fish. Until a few weeks ago, I had not lost a fish in about 6-8 months. Shortly after giving up on my 1st LTA (thanks to all for the attempt at helping), I THOUGHT my pygmy angle had Ick. I gave him a quick FW dip and moved him to a hospital tank, he looked fine, even ate in the new home, but he didn't make it through the night. Back to the Clown. He has on his belly a dark gray, almost black, patch. Other than that he seems great. Very active, eating well, no scratching normal resperation, clear eyes... all good. Infact, he is so active & moving so fast, I can't tell if this is a "fuzzy patch" on his skin or an indentation or neither. Water tests great. Other fish seem fine. Doesn't seem to be "Clown Desease" or Black Ick. Any feedback would be great!
traveller7 July 9, 2003 Share July 9, 2003 IME wounds from abrasion, bacterial infection, etc., will cause dark patches in clowns. In addition, A. Ocellaris is known to have quite a few dark color variants that appear after the fish mature. A picture would help and best of luck.
michaelg July 9, 2003 Share July 9, 2003 behavior can tell a lot when fish are sick. Sounds like it might just be pigmentation. Many clowns get darker as they get older. My clarkiis are so dark, they almost look black. Might I suggest thay you add a cleaner shrimp to the tank? That may have circumvented the treatment course you took with the angel fish. Grav July 9, 2003 Author Share July 9, 2003 Thanks for the feedback. I've got 2 pepermints in there now, and I've been planning to swap them for a cleaner. I can't imagine a Tank Raised fish going to a "cleaning station" but I'd love to see it. I've tried to take a Pic, but he is so quick! I really don't think it a color change but a wound of some kind... perhaps a crab gave him a nip or something.
