Gatortailale September 24, 2004 Share September 24, 2004 Greetings to all! WHAT'S NEW We had a very impressive trade-in of propagated SPS frags on Wednesday. Come in and check out the tricolor Bottlebrush Acropora or the green Montipora Capricornis. There are also some purple and green Montipora Digitata. New in the fish department are Blue and Yellow Assessors, a gorgeous Chocolate Tang, Engineer Gobies, more Four Lined Wrasses, a Majestic Angel and a Rusty Angel. We have just completed our new Nano Tank design, we now have an even bigger and better variety of these small coral frags available. WHAT'S ON SALE We have two great looking Marshall Island live rocks left and we are letting them go at $7.99 a pound; that's 20% off. Our Button Colony Live Rock has also been reduced, you'll find some good deals amongst our selection. There will be a selection of corals discounted to only $25.00, get these before they are gone. All RO filter system cartridges are 10% off, buy three and get 15% off all three. DID YOU KNOW? Did you know how important it is to change your Reverse Osmosis filter cartridges at regular intervals? RO filters remove many contaminates such as viruses, bacteria, pesticides, herbicides, cysts, fluorides, arsenic and heavy metals. If your filter cartridges are old you may be allowing any of these get into your product water. On average, RO membranes should be changed about once a year and all of the bottom cartridges (carbon, pre-filter, Deionization) should be changed about twice a year. Tap water quality can vary greatly from place to place and system usage also varies from hobbyist to hobbyist, both of these are major determining factors in how often the cartridges need to be replaced. There are a couple of tell tale signs that will help you to know when the time comes. First check your Dissolved Solids monitor. If your system doesn't have one, check the pressure gauge after the membrane; if it is low, it's time to change the membrane. If you don't have a pressure gauge, check your ratio of waste water to good water. If the ratio is greater than 3 to 1 it's time to change the membrane. If you have a Deionization cartridge, you will know when it's time for a change when the beads turn to a light tan or light yellow color. A good carbon cartridge is essential in maintaining the integrity of your RO membrane. About 1500 gallons of water may pass through a carbon cartridge before it is exhausted. The pre-filter cartridge will turn yellow or brown when it needs to be replaced. One more tip: don't leave the filter out of use with standing water for any extended period of time, you may be growing mold or bacteria inside of the filter itself. Run water through the filter every now and then to keep it clean. By the way, Reverse Osmosis filter cartridges are on sale this weekend. Have a nice weekend, hope to see you soon! -Kristen Lau Assistant Manager The Marine Scene (703) 689.2815 www.marinescene.com

pez September 24, 2004 Share September 24, 2004 I happened to be in the store when the "trade" was made and the pieces are very nice. Some of them would be prize additions to a SPS tank. -Tom
