Guest clownfish4 June 28, 2004 Share June 28, 2004 I want to build a very effective and inexpensive skimmer. Anyone know of any really good plans? Preferably with a drain hose and not a collection cup. Thanks.

michaelg June 29, 2004 Share June 29, 2004 If you want "very effective", you best bet is a beckett skimmer. These need big pumps though, so end up being expensive (and a fair amount of acrylic). A much more economical choice is a big air driven skimmer, such as the snailman's design. These are quite good at pulling a lot of gunk, are quiet, and don't need the big pump. Are you going to need it to be hang on? If so, there are not many good designs for them.
Guest clownfish4 June 29, 2004 Share June 29, 2004 I'm actually thinking I may just buy a good one. I have some money coming my way to spend, I think.
