Homemade Filter ideas

alright, iv been thinking about this all day. i have an idea on how to build a filter out of a 5 gallon bucket. i had an image of it running basicly like a Canister filter, using 802 power heads to move the water in and out of the bucket. Im kinda confused from that point.Does anyone have any ideas i could use??  ???
