Guest snapper February 3, 2003 February 3, 2003 I'm building my own Ca reactor. I'm making a single stage with a reaction chamber 30" tall. Any words of advice/caution for this design? thanks, Snapper
michaelg February 3, 2003 February 3, 2003 If you do a reverse flow- bottoms up direction, I would use a mag 5 or equivalent sized pump for one this tall. I currently am using a mag 3 on one much smaller, and it is just the right size. Make sure to put unions in so taking the pump out for service is easy, as well as opening the top to add new media. Mine currently has a 4" threaded PVC cap and it is a pain- if you don't have tools to make a flange- looks at myreef creations. Andy has just the flanges for $25- Pretty sure he could modifiy it however you wanted with holes of a given size for the top piece.
Guest snapper February 3, 2003 February 3, 2003 Thanks, The flange idea is definately more attractive than the PVC cap. Does he just sell the flanges, made to order? Eric
michaelg February 4, 2003 February 4, 2003 I'm pretty sure he will custom job them. He has 4" flange sets ready to go with gasket- but make sure to contact him with exactly what you want (worst case is you will need to drill a couple holes in the top). Michael
michaelg February 4, 2003 February 4, 2003 http://www.myreefcreations.com/main.html look under diy parts.
michaelg February 4, 2003 February 4, 2003 I can send picks of the ones I made with disks from US plastics. Big difference is the thickness in the acrylic and the finish. A DIY project should have no expensive parts IMO, but using those does give a real nice finish.
