DDiver November 25, 2008 November 25, 2008 I am switching from 13.5k megachromes to 14k phoenix and wanted to know what the proper procedure is for acclimating to the new bulbs?
onyx November 26, 2008 November 26, 2008 Hey man... lol... You can raise the light fixture a few inches if you like to help with the intensity... and lower it a bit every week or so... but depending on your corals you might not need to do anything. I have the phoenix 14k and love them.
DDiver November 26, 2008 Author November 26, 2008 (edited) What about the photoperiod..should I cut the hours in half and then bump it out an hour a week? I have 95% sps... Edited November 26, 2008 by DDiver
onyx November 26, 2008 November 26, 2008 I doubt you would have to cut the photo period in half. The Phoenix put out a pretty fair amount of PAR from my experience.. You could cut the lights back a few hours and raise the lights to see how they adjusted.. if you didn't want to move the lights, then cutting the light period way back would probably be a good idea just to see how they react. I have no experience with your other bulbs.. so I don't know how they compare PAR wise. Anyone else with good SPS experience with any thoughts?
chucelli November 26, 2008 November 26, 2008 (edited) Do not cut back on photoperiod, as what you are trying to do is acclimate due to change in intensity. Changing photoperiod will introduce unnecessary change. The best way is as onyx mentioned by lifting the fixture a few inches and lowering it slowly over a couple weeks.
