just looking for some feedback on which salt everyone uses/prefers etc

I have been using Instant Ocean for a year and a half but after reading reviews on kent marine, tropic marin and few others I am considering switching

I have a few lps , sps , softies, inverts, fish

whats a winner out of the lot and how should I make the transition

This question comes up quite often and it really comes down to personal preference. Some brands are higher or lower in alk and CA and all of them experience bad lots from time to time. Most of us and many of the most well known experts and authors use Instant Ocean. I've never really seen a reason to switch.

What problem are you trying to resolve by switching or what is it that you've read that has you thinking about doing so?

I just started with hard corals and tested my CA lvls which are at 340 , on the low side but i also intentionally keep my SG at 1.023.

I know the manufacturer faq's are for 1.025 sg and lower lvls cause the ca to scale down proportionally.

I read on some of the sites that some of them compensate by buffering ca and magnesium more if its for a reef even at lower sg. Then I also read reviews where others switched and found their corals to be more healthy.

I have not come across any problem really but if picking on brand over another helps boost some lvls without having a reactor or addon supplements I guess I would prefer that.

Just like Ybenormal said it comes down to preference. IMO what ever Your LFS uses thats what you usually end up with. Usually wi salts the higher dollar one might have a little more Cal.,Mag, and Alk. If you do switch do it gradually, about 5% water changes for a while more often, instead of the normal 20%. Hope this helped . :why:
