mutley29 January 18, 2005 Share January 18, 2005 Thinking of getting rid of my 46 bow and stand and replacing with 15 or 20 gal nano, i was wondering whether i would be able to use the Aqua C Remora on such a small system. Would it overskim or be too much for a small tank? What do you guys suggest? Any all advice welcome and any sensible offers on the 46 bow too [beer2] Anton :D
steveoutlaw January 19, 2005 Share January 19, 2005 I was under the impression that you couldn't overskim. The skimmer can only take out the nasties in the water. If there aren't a lot of nasties than your skimmer cup just won't fill as fast. I use the remora on my 29g and it does just fine.
mutley29 January 19, 2005 Author Share January 19, 2005 I thought that too, i was just wondering if a large skimmer rated for 75 gal would be detrimental to a small 10 - 15 gal nano ??? Anton [nana]
peacetypes January 20, 2005 Share January 20, 2005 for a tank that size i dont think youd need a skimmer, altough you could definately put a skimmer that size on a 15-20 gal.
ChrisRD January 20, 2005 Share January 20, 2005 I'd use it.
michaelg January 20, 2005 Share January 20, 2005 Keep in mind that skimmer ratings are typically for max size tank at moderate bio-load. Run it for a while, especially after the transfer, then decide down the road. The boost in airation will be significant for a small tank, but it may outstrip some of the desirables from the water (see faq link in turbofloater thread with long skimmer discussion). That all said, I did have a small air driven skimmer on my 10 gallon initially, but have not run it for 3 years now and the tank is quite happy.
