polyps retracted?

Recommended Posts

Guest burk504

My 125 is has been up and running with fish for about a month now.  I transfered over the coral from my old 20...a torch coral, bunch of mushrooms.

For 3 days now, everything is not opening.  Mushrooms stay shrunken and the torch polyps are almost completely retracted.

Water test are good all good.  0 ammonia, 10 nitrates, ph 8.4

The only thing that I have done differently is my wife bought a Glade air freshener that sprays this miust every hour or so.  Could this cause a problem??

Nitrates are a bit high and do you test for phosphate- that is a real limiting factor with many corals

Jeff,

That Glade stuff I think could be a problem.  Is your top open with no canopy?  I would just stop using it temporaritly and see if things improve.  I think this is the easiest wayto find out.  You might want to do a water change too to make sure the water is ok.

Do you have more or less light on the new tank. When I moved my stuff it took a couple of das for things to open up but you may want to do a water change.

All of the corals you mentioned do not need a lot of light.  If you using MH or a lot of FL now, that could be the problem.  I doubt nitrate could be the problem here, but a month is not a lot of time for things to settle down with respect to your cycle and the "aging" of the tank.  In fact, there is a rather large debate about which nutrients limit growth (e.g., nitrate, phosphate, etc.) and there is no clear scientific evidence a this time.  Give it a few more days and post back if things have not gotten better.  (there is also the obligatory water change too).
