  1. Petland is a franchise. Each store is independently owned. I spoke to the owner and he tried to sell me things that I did not need. He also told me I could put two gobies in my 90 together - I disagree. The guy who manages the fish seems cool though. The fish looked healthy.

  2. Wait. What did you expect them to do? They said it was NOT THEIR fault yet they were willing to give you your money back or ship another one when they have more in two weeks. What more can you ask for? They ship a lot of bulbs. You really think they don't know how to pack them? They'd be dealing with refunds and replacements on a regular basis.

  3. Just because they state on their website that they are not responsible for shipping delays does not make it true.

I think it is fair to give them a week or so to get a credit from UPS, but put the screws to them after that. Tell them you'll dispute it with the credit card company if they don't resolve the problem for you in 3 days or something.

The vendor is responsible for getting the item delivered to you. Especially when you paid them to do it.

  4. I'm confused. Where do you put the "layer of gel down"? On the location where the plug will be placed or the plug itself?? And you just dunk the plug in the tank a few times before placing it? Then place the plug on the rockwork?

yeah yauger just showed me how to do this last night. Using the super glue gel, you put a layer of gel down, then dunk the plug in the water forming a skin. Repeat this 2-3 times. Then when ready, press the plug down on the rock in the place you want. By pressing down, you break the skin, causing the uncured gel under the skin to flow out and cure on contact with the water. Hold there for about 10 seconds and you're good to go!

  5. Thanks a lot, Mark. Mine look great and I've got a nice variety. We may all have different definitions of "rainbow", but I've got a couple with 2-3 color bands. I've also got 2 or 3 that are basically white with a hint of yellow or green. I can't wait to see if they change color.

I've got some in the sand and some attached to low rockwork. I'm worried flow might be a bit much, but we'll see.

I'd be happy to trade with people if/when they start replicating.

I'm not so sure there were any rainbows. I was pick 3 and didn't see any.

Mine are small too, but they will grow, and I like to get them small to watch them grow. I love mine. They are all doing fabulously.

I will partcipate again. Thanks a bunch

    Sandy

  6. What are your water params? I had a similar problem with a different type of coral. The base was bleaching out. Since then I've correct a low alk problem and it is recovering.

I've also done several small water changes over the last month so that could also be a factor in the recovery. I had overall water quality issues due to neglect and the job from H-E-double hocky sticks. Replacing the job from H-E-double hocky sticks also helped.

OK, so, now it started turning brown. First picture below is a picture under a T-5 array in our frag tank (as opposed to under 250 w 20,000 K halides, as in the upper pictures. Second is a repeat of above; coral is turned about 90 degrees. Any ideas?

  7. It looks like I confused Faviaa with Ricordea. Don't ask me how :(. I've got a single ricordea head as of a month ago and I'd love to have more. I'm up for a group buy.

  8. I've had 3 or 4 different types and they all die :(. I think my hermit crabs eat them, but I'm not sure if they just start doing that when the coral starts going down hill?

What sort of lighting, tank position, and waterflow do you keep them in?

  9. To significantly reduce the chance of failure then run two solenoid pairs (total of 4 solenoids) in parallel.

Any pump would work...as their relay is rated at 1800 watts / 15 amps.

  10. You could park a car on that concrete slab. Your aquarium will be fine

After doing a lot of research on this several months ago, I think this is going to be fine but I wanted to see if anyone thought I was crazy... I'm finally getting ready (again) to put a 90g FOWLR in our condo. There will be a 29g sump/fuge in the cabinet stand. The aquarium would go on the main floor, with a basement beneath it. The floor between the two levels is concrete slab, and the aquarium would either be placed above a support column or against a load bearing wall. I suspect that with a concrete slab and the position of the aquarium there will be more than ample support (indeed, the resident of a similar unit did the same thing with a 90g and had no problems), but I want to see if there's anyone who thinks I'm nuts before I do this and risk thousands of dollars in repair work.

  11. What exactly are you looking for? Do you want a quick pocket sized point and click, a Digital SLR, or something in between?

If you want digital SLR then the D40 is the way to go as people said.

For point and click: I recommend the Cannon Powershot SD1000 or SD750. I've got the 1000 and it is great for point and click photography. It is easy to use, but you don't get much control. Note that the 750 is actually a more advanced model despite the lower number. There are also some newer Powershot models that might be better, but I've not done research.

I've also got a waterproof case for my SD1000. It was nice to have when I went snorkeling and to the beach on a recent cruise. This is the waterproof case that I've got: http://www.amazon.com/Canon-WP-DC13-Waterp...d_sim_e_title_5

  12. He's eating SPS. Sorry, I had to do it....

What are you feeding yours? I picked one up from Roozens on Friday and I have not seen him eat yet. It is beginning to show too. If I dont get some food in him soon he's not going to make it.

  13. If you're comfortable handling it then remove it from the rock using a credit card, but BE CAREFUL. Then place it exactly where you want it to be. BTAs won't move if you put them in a good spot. I've placed mine exactly where I want them each time. They attach to the rock immediately and don't move.

i will try the shading method for 1~2 days. i assume they wont die because of lackof light for 2 days.

  14. I stopped by on Saturday and picked up a Flame Hawkfish that I'd been itching to have for a while. Everyone was helpful as always.

The octopus was a nice "catch", John.

Glad they were able to help you effectivly!

That would be Ozzie, and yea he is a good guy....

  15. I suggest you look into getting a float valve. Here's the one I have (and it is sold by a club sponsor):

I just drilled a hole in the side of the trashcan and then screwed in the float valve. Problem solved in less than 10 minutes.

I use one of these to split my washer's water feed:

  16. I worked there several years ago. They did not feed anything abnormal to their fish. I did the feeding.

I ranked them up there next super petz. Bought a bright orange discus from them. 3 days later, the color of the discus faded and turned back to dull grey color and it later died. It turned out that that store been known to feed their fish with color enhancement hormones to give them the colors.

  17. I purchase a little over 100 lbs from him about a year and half ago. The rock is great and I'm still finding all sorts of new critters. Don't forget about the new tank discount on inverts and livestock.

They're always very friendly and actually call me with tracking numbers even though I also get them in my email.

I ordered a Powder Blue from them that did not ship well and was dead within 24 hours. They credited my account for my next purchase...which reminds me I have an order to place soon :).

They're also a nice excuse for a beach trip.

  18. LOL. Measure out how much salt you use the next time you make 1.025 and you won't need to use the refractometer as much :). That said...I don't know the answer.

I have a very good system for getting 1.025 every time.

    Get a good refractometer.

  19. That tank was sitting out there the last time I was there over a year ago. FWIW, I bought my 90 gallon from them since they had the cheapest price (of the stores I knew of at the time).

I was always wondering about the glass tank sitations.... how can they sell cracked tanks like that ... what if someone was to get really hurt on thier tanks couldn't they be liable for suite? Just a thought and yes they have some really cracked stuff...the other thing is they have vermin running around all over the place like escaped feeders one time I was there and a guy brought back a 55 pound bag of dogfood full of insects .... it was disgusting and they took it back, but thats a really nasty product to sell ppl... anyway I also have one copmlaint I got some fleas from the crickets they sold me one time... this is pretty common, but a pain in the butt they really need catch the vermin and keep thier cats from climbing over stuff that store is far from sterile:)
