    What do you look like?

  2. WAMAS Senior Leadership should look into this:

    PROJECT AWARE FOUNDATION

    GRANT PROGRAM

    INFORMATION AND GUIDELINES

    About Us

The Project AWARE Foundation, established in 1992, is the dive industry's leading non-profit organization committed to conserving the underwater environments through education, advocacy and action. Grant program funding is made possible by direct contributions from divers and water enthusiasts and operates on a quarterly funding cycle.

Project AWARE Foundation provides grants to a variety of nonprofit organizations, institutions and individuals involved in activities directly related to the conservation of underwater environments - both marine and freshwater. We work to accomplish our mission through support of programs in selected focus areas including:

    Coral reef conservation

    Shark protection

    Sustainable fisheries

Ecotourism (as related to underwater environments)

Aquatic education with a special interest in children

Direct activities to conserve underwater resources such as shoreline and underwater cleanups, mooring buoy installations and maintenance.

Within these focus areas, projects may include:

    Public education (formal and informal)

Grass roots conservation and enhancement projects

Environmentally focused research that leads to conservation measures

    Public awareness initiatives

    Environmental assessment and monitoring projects

    Volunteer-support community activism

    We do not fund:

Legislative advocacy to influence policy; political campaigns

Projects whose methods are not environmentally accepted

Overhead expenses including salaries, stipends, benefits or tuition

Capital expenses including computer hardware/software or office furnishings

    Travel and living expenses

    Dive equipment or instruction

    Products designed for resale

    Funding Limitations

Funding requests will be accepted up to a maximum of US $10,000, AU $2,500 or UK

  3. So I was at Epcot yesterday and of course HAD to go by the Living Seas. Not too shabby. I was hoping there'd be more reef stuff, but at least there was some. What I loved the most was that they had a researcher there doing... something -- behind an array of small tanks filled with tank-raised fish, and a pair of coral propagation tanks complete with reef plugs and eggcrate. They even had a sign talking about coral propagation and it's importance. That was fantastic.

We also had dinner at the Coral Reef ... which didn't have much in the way of reefyness, but we were sitting directly adjacent to the 57-million gallon tank complete with (the ever popular) lookdown fish, grouper, a few triggers, sharks, stingrays, and at least one very large sea turtle. ... and a bunch of divers :)

Those of you who travel with children -- and really, even if you don't, check out Turtle Talk. My 2 year old AND my 11 month old were transfixed.

I have been going to Disney for the past 6 years and every single year we have dinner at the Coral Reef and of course spend almost a day hanging out at the Living Seas. Highly recommended.

  4. nice collection of zoanthids!

Well those are the survivors om 24G genocide, all the bad *** ones prettu much died and the ones that survived have lost come of the color, hopefully I can re aquascape soon and put them back on top, I'm always willing to trade once they are ready for fragging. I don't the conditions on the new tank, but on the old tank zoas used to spread like an out-of-control wildfire.

  5. I finally joined Wamas. Paid via paypal on 3/25. Recieved my card. I wanted to introduce myself and post some pics of my reef ..so I applied for a password for the gallery. The Secret Operative and Commander of the Anti Tang Police, Boricua Division came out of Nano-Reef.com to which I was a regular and there is the ongoing JEDI Battle of the people with tangs on their Nano's and the advocates of having tangs on your Nano is cruelty even if they are baby 1-2" tangs and you fully understand that it needs to move out to a bigger home when it reach a bigger size, go figure, darn hippies...

No need to be sorry. We all strugle with english, even those living here for centuries. You can express yourself and if someone dosen't understand either they ask or.... como decimos nosotros, "que se joda". :D

  10. Hi, I am Rafael, everyone calls me Raf, I'm located in Rockville, MD and work in NOVA. I have attended couple of WAMAS meetings and met some interesting, encouraging and knowledgeable people (Bob, Charlie97L, dude you know who you are T5 plans big tank - sorry but I forgot your name) Anyways, quick background had a whooping 24G NC and it cracked, well sad that it broke but it gave me a chance to pick up a brand new 46G AGA BF for 96.00; bad part is that I can be a compulsive spender (always want the best of every hobby I'm involved) so I once a month I have a small limit to spend (the temptation of a drug addict sitting in front of a table full of different drugs knowing that you can't have them no matter how much you want them) so I'm slowly making progress in the recovery and build. Donations are welcome for the new tank fund :) and did I forget to mention that contributions are tax deductible under charity ;)

If some of you remember in the zoo a few weeks back when the lady was making her presentation on the different tanks the kid that was driving her crazy with questions that is my kid Gio, also if some of you remember the meeting at Blue Ribbon Koi he was the lucky little dude that got the opportunity to draw the winning raffle tickets.

Anyways, I will see you all in the future and look forward to conversating with everyone.

    Raf
