I found the reference useful also so I contact AIMS about the coral resource....here's the updated link. They're looking for feedback...so please contribute to their efforts by sending some well thought out suggestions.

Enjoy!

Like others:
New bulbs intensity > old bulb intensity = lightburn
Either reduce exposure period
or
use window screen material for a 2-3 days so that the light intensity is diminished and livestock get more used to the shift in the wavelength that occurs (bulb wavelengths change over time).

DC -> TDS going in 260

Sorry to hear. LMK if you need anything.

ITF (In Tank Fertilization) Congratulations Dad!

Beautiful tanks...all of them. The efflo is your signature!
I wonder why one efflo grew so fast and the other didn't?

The germans are controlling coral paracites with camel shrimp. A small aquarium plumbed into your reef. Place your new coral in the tank for about 15 minutes with about 10 camel shrimp. They will devour any hitchikers. Monti and Zoo nudis, Red Bugs and Flat Worms.
Good Luck and Stay Clean!
I hear that you need to be aware and careful with this treatment. Keep to the 15 minutes. Keep shrimp hungry also!

What was going on? Or is there a glitch?

Chris you almost have a nice tank, it if weren't for that white PVC cap.
Hah..hah..
Nice Chris...!

If I can do it, so can you!
"Can we do it? YES WE CAN!" (so said Bob)
Now that you have shattered two sides of the 10g, you still have 3 more sides to practice on! As Traveller7 suggest...create a moat or run water.

Mark,
Looking good!

Brian,
Thanks for an informative and useful article!
-
Clyde,
Nice job!

Done. Don't drive that much...except for this hobby!
Good luck.

James,
I do use bleach to kill any bacteria.....I don't have a dedicated "fish" washing machine and don't want gunk all over the place. Like the others, I accumulate the socks for a the laundry. One idea which I am going to implement is storing the socks in a bucket with diluted bleach so I can close the LID and not have gunk growing!!! :-)

I would have to agree with Maureen.

Your wives are actually taking an interest that can be developed into a team effort. Squashing that interest will result in this being a loner hobby (and one with a smaller budget)!
There will be errors by spouses as, quite simply, you built the system, now maintain it and have probably invested hundreds (thousands?) of hours in understanding it. How about all the errors we all make, but since it's just us, no one need know! With two knowledgeable aquarists, errors become explicit - both your errors and your spouses. It makes us better aquarist.
BTW (back to work)

James,
1. Melt any loose strings at the bottom of the sock to prevent unraveling.
1.5 Invert socks inside out!
2. Put in washing machine - prefer standard vs. frontloading for this.
3. Run through a rinse cycle. cold/cold
3. Add Clorox bleach and soak for 1 hr.
4. Run through the full wash cycles (2-3) cold/cold
5. Use again and again in reef system.
NOTE: new filter socks should be washed as they can make your skimmer go beserk with foam -> read...massive overflow.

You have way too much time at work!
Go home and have a beer!
And after you've had too many beers...it won't matter whether it's two, too or to, unless it's a tutu and you're wearing it backwards...!
