  1. Anyone in the Rockville area, preferably somewhat near white flint, have a table saw I could use. I just need to make a few cuts on some acrylic so I can finish off my sump. PM me please! Thanks! Zac Alexander
  2. I recently bought a used EV-120 from the forums. Well, when I received it, there appeared to be some sort of broken crimped rigid tubing in the input elbow. I was trying to clean it and ended up breaking it and removing it. Well, when I tried to use the skimmer, as you all know, it did not work well as I had removed an integral part, the injector. So I emailed AquaC, and told them what had happened. Customer service emailed me right back and asked for my address so they could send out a new elbow and injector! No charge, no shipping, no questions, and all that despite the fact that I was not even the original purchaser!!! In any case, I just wanted to comment on their excellent and quick customer service. Outstanding work!!! Zac Alexander
  3. OK, this is really funny.... So I contacted Bostik in Australia, telling them I was in the United States looking for Titan Bond Plus. The kind clerk actually redirects me to a company in California called Mr. Sticky where they actually buy Titan Bond Plus and rename it. She kindly gives me the contact information and asks me to call Art Queen. So, I call Mr. Sticky's in CA and ask for Art Queen, and he says "ah yes, Titan Bond Plus, we sell it here in the US as Mr. Sticky's Underwater Glue." "Can I buy some from you?" I ask. He proceeds to direct me to their online website to locate a vendor, and also asks me what I'm using it for. I tell him I'm putting in some acrylic dividers into an aquarium, which he says will work great with the Underwater Glue. So I log onto their website to check out their vendors. And the first one on the list??? Drs Foster and Smith which I find hilarious being that I called all over the world, just to finally be redirected to a site I have already purchased from.... Anyway, the above link will get you to Mr Sticky's Underwater Glue at Drs F&S, sold for $7.49 a tube. He did give me a couple pointers when using it. 1. Leave a small gap, just like you would when binding acrylic to acrylic with Weldon 2. If using it in water with live fish (Art did say this was safe and has been tested) do not let any of the binder (the yellow part of the mixture) into the aquarium free by itself. You should premix it in a cup, then you can use a second syringe to take up the mixture FROM THE MIDDLE OF THE MIX. Art said the free yellow binder will migrate to the edges of the mix. If you have any questions feel free to call Art Queen at Mr. Sticky at 1-916-961-7378. He was actually VERY helpful, and very interested in our uses! Good luck! Zac
  4. Yes it will, though I'm not sure how the strength of the bond compares with Weldon Zac
  5. Dave - I'll take the small piece of 1/2 inch flex tubing as well as the 3.5 ft length of 1in PVC Howard - I'd love some gutter screen That reminds me (assuming gutter screen is heavy duty and not like window screen), has anyone recently bought a bulk of window/door/porch screen to use in acclimating corals to your lighting? I checked at home depot but all they had was 50-100 foot bulk. Anyone wanna bring some to the meeting to piece out for a buck or two a yard? Noone has any opaque/black acrylic??? Zac
  6. Hmmm, no results from searching RC. I'll see if I can contact the company in Australia. Who is interested in purchasing a tube or two? Just trying to get an idea on numbers.... maybe I can get a bulk price if we get to 10 or so.. Zac
  7. So, I need a couple small pieces of things that I don't want to buy in gross. If you have some scraps of the following, I'll give ya a couple bucks at the winter meeting if you're willing to bring them: 1/2 inch flexible tubing (just need 1-2 inches to finally finish the Chip-O-Matic Kalk reactor) Black acrylic 9 inches x 6 inches (to make a cover for my RR overflow) 1 inch sched 40 PVC (need a couple 2 foot pieces to complete my plumbing) Thanks in advance for your help, and I'll see you all at the meeting! Zac
  8. I'd love to do a group order, I think this stuff would be really handy for most of us. Problem is, I can't even figure out where to do a group order from. Unless we want to actually try and do a direct order from Bostik? Zac
  9. So I'm getting ready to modify a 20g with some acrylic baffles, and was looking for something to bind glass and acrylic when I came across Bostik Titan Bond Plus on a website. So, I searched on the web and found Bostik in Australia, but it looks like they only sell to businesses, no direct sales at this time (looks like it may be in the works though). Has anyone ever seen this stuff anywhere??? Zac
  10. Here's a view of the endcaps. The white wires on each cap go to a small fuse? Capacitor? that I am holding.
  11. Please do! Or you can email it to me at zac.alexander@gmail.com
  12. Not sure if the epoxy will bind acrylic to glass.... By the way, I just ordered my acrylic from Piedmont, I did go with 3/16". What thickness did you use? Oh and for everyone else. Piedmont will cut your acrylic to whatever specifications you like, but they cannot machine it...i.e. can't put in drain slots or holes. All they do is cut it to size. Zac
  13. Here's the one I use.... RO/DI Most importantly, it's easy to use, easy to setup, and includes setups for undersink connection, faucet connection, of hosebib (i.e. clothes washer) attachments. Can make up to 100 gpd. Zac
  14. Wow, this is absolutely amazing (if it really did come back)!!!!! Note: If Eric B. does actually end up coming to Inna'a to write this up, we must schedule a WAMAS meeting and get him to speak! I hope it does get written up, you could be famous Inna! Zac
  15. Elapsed time timer. They had a second one next to it at Home Depot, more expensive. I didn't spend too much time looking at it. It may have been a volume timer. However, I would guess with the relatively small volumes we use, compared to the volumes usually used to water your lawn, a volume timer would probably be pretty inaccurate for 5-10 gallons. Zac
  16. Found this interesting little device at Home depot for about $16. It's a mechanical aquatimer which can be set to run for up to 2 hours. It also has a manual on mode, which means it stays on without a timer. It installs easily to a standard hose fitting, perfect for those that run their RO/DI off the washer hookup's. Hopefully this will prevent a few floods for those folks that have a tendency to forget about their RO/DI..... Zac
  17. Oops, sorry for the busted link. Here ya go! http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/april2003/chem.htm Zac
  18. All you ever wanted to know about Iodine and more.... by Randy Holmes Iodine in Marine Aquaria: Part I http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/mar2003/chem.htm Iodine in Reef Tanks 2: Effects on Macroalgae Growth http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/april2003/chem.htm Zac
  19. Excellent question, which I also do not know the answer to. You should post the question over on Reef Central in the Reef Chemistry Forum. Randy Holmes-Farley is an outstanding resource, and usually answers posts quickly. Zac
  20. Agreed. Melev actually now recommends this on his site so that you aren't skimming the water that then goes to the fuge. Just swap the fuge and return sections, so that now both the fuge and the skimmer sections drain towards the center into your return. By the way, I'm planning on building the exact same sump as you into a 20H for my 58. Would love to get together with ya when you do the acrylic work since I have no real tools..... Have you purchased your acrylic yet? Would be willing to go together with ya on that as well. Zac
  21. Might I suggest you add this little fella with your new collector's tang, I'm quite sure they would look great together. Zac
  22. Beautiful work. Ditto on the details. I want fishroom pics and specs!! Zac
  23. I'm setting up my 58g, and had planned to do a Melev type closed loop, but after seeing the substrated buried closed loop, I'm definately going that direction. I've got a MAG 9.5 I'll hook up to it, but I'm also planning on putting a SCWD inline to vary the flow a bit. Thanks for the pics!! By the way, where did you get the black PVC? Zac
