Does everyone here place the effluent tubing from their reactors directly underwater, meaning the return water exits the tubing underwater in the sump. Are there pros/cons to placing the tubing just above the water, other than the visual confirmation its draining but the annoying noise of the drip?

I could be totally wrong but if I look at the following methods for adding Ca/Alk [ Ca reactor, kalk, 2 part, 3 part balling, carbocalcium ] and think about which ones lead to ionic imbalances I am guessing... Kalk, ca reactors, and carbocalcium contribute would contribute minimally 2 part obviously the most, 3 part balling would be better but you start altering additions to reach a certain Ca or alk you could get in trouble. How do you guys think about this? I generally understand the concept but with I had a better grasp on it.

Hello all! I'm going from a simple 6 yo 55g that I basically maintained through massive WCs to a 250g next year and I wanted to gather your thoughts on the need for and when to begin using the following: Never had a fuge but apparently they're great, when should I start to grow chaeto? After cycling is done? Only after I have several fish in there? Never!? UV sterilizer, after the cycle is done, do you guys run this all the time? I've read some folks just using it occasionally when certain issues like algae arise. Or run it from the start? I was thinking of running some carbon 24/7 after cycling and have an extra reactor for GFO but only run it if I have phos problems. Thanks!
