  1. @DFR, I have a 150g and my power head is on the back glass facing forward. The output flow from the MP60, even on low setting, is blowing sand around after reflecting off of front glass. My idea is that if that forward flow is widened or broadened, it would be less turbulent getting blown off of the front glass.

  2. Does anyone have a .stl file or know where I can find one for an MP60 Wide Flow Guard. This is different than the Nem guard. I have searched the threads, but haven't seen anything yet. Or if you are great at designing this, give it a shot. I do not have the capabilities to create something like this. Please share file or DM me.

  3. Hey all,

Maybe some of you made the same mistake I have. I lowered nutrients (PO4) too fast and I have been battling green algae and cyano for a month now. Since lowering nutrient's, I have maintained the new levels. (Alk 8.1-8.6, Ca 410-435, Mg 1420, Po4 .03-.12, NO3 25ish) for 3 weeks and trying to keep them stable. Many corals are RTNing and I am trying to bandaid this before everything goes. If you ever made the mistake I have, how long or what did you do to save the tank. TIA

  4. Over the last 4 weeks, I have calibrated this trident twice (two different calibration fluids that come in the reagent kits). Alkalinity is very close, magnesium is spot on, and Calcium is still 75 high. I'm cross referencing with Hanna and salifert checkers. Am I doing something wrong here???

if it's not too late - I had one for a while, not a fan.  Mine also deteriorated over time.  I also had an aluminum problem, though i don't know that Marinepure was the source.   They adamantly say it's not.  I've seen enough anecdotal experience to be doubtful (lots of good threads on this on R2R)

And most importantly, IMO, the marine pure nitrified just fine (as it should), but did not denitrify.   I switched to Seachem matrix and after about a month they started nitrifying and denitrifying extremely well.  I generally prefer Matrix over marine pure.

I just put up a new tank last month. I now use Tropic Marin salt rather that IORC. I moved my bio blocks over and my latest ICP show very high Tin, everything else is within spec. I believe this might have to do with the Bio-Blocks also, but I cannot be 100%

Otherwise, i think they helped keep my tank stable when i switched everything over from the old tank.

  6. Lets see.......how do i start my content......Lets start HERE! I was excited to place an order with SC Aquariums out of California. I was excited because this is my first NEW tank and stand I have ever purchased. My previous 10 years were accompanied with used tanks. Originally i was going to place this order back in May but Covid19 delayed my ordering a few months. Steve (owner) was very patient while i kept him up to date on emails.

Fast forwarding to early September, I received my order (tank, stand, and canopy). After taking delivery, there was damage caused by Saja freight during shipping. Luckily to tank damage at all! A good size gouge in the stand and one side of the canopy looked like it was rubbing against a vibrating wall as it made its way across the country to VA. It wore down the moldings and broke some off as well. I reported this to Steve and he was successful in filing a claim with them. When looking over the damage i could not help but notice the terrible quality in the paint. By no means is this SC Aquariums fault! I expressed my issues with Steve and come to find out, he contracts out the stand builds to another company. Due to Covid19, his #1 company had to halt production, so he had to find other manufactures. Well this manufacture that did my stand was sub par. There were runs, fish eyes, dry spots, and even missing areas of paint throughout the stand and canopy. Luckily Steve agreed and helped me out, but i did have to get it all refinished. It needed to be sanded down and repainted...
A few weeks later and in the house, i start filling it up with water. No issues. I am very happy with the tank itself (SC Aquariums hand builds them right there in CA). It has the euro brace up top and plenty of calk to hold it all together!

Canopy: Inside the canopy I am currently running a 6 bulb 48" ATI T5 fixture with 2 Reefbrite Tech LED's. I did modify the canopy with the help of @soulpatch and @ACENOBODY , I used some soft-close drawer slides, angle iron, screws, and a bunch of metal drill bits! I still need to seal the metal with a paint to prevent rust. It sits about 6" above the water, and if i ever need to replace bulbs or clean the water shield, i just roll it out!

Stand: With this build I replaced my Bashsea sump for a sump with more features/options, the #Fijicube 36. Replaced my Vertex 150 skimmer with a #Skimz SM167. So far i really like the internal pump to save space and the DC pump is adjustable and quiet! The sump has an area for filter floss, so no more socks to clean. Every chamber has a lid to slow down evaporation and salt creep. Im still running a little cheato and bio-blocks. My #Neptune #Core20 is my return pump from the previous build. Hopefully i can set up the UV light soon, but i always get pulled away. As you can see, im trying to build an equipment board with the little space left over. Its an ongoing project. Also you can see the ATK and 2 #Kamoer X1 V2 dosers.

Tank: Im running 2 @Ecotech #MP40 and a MP60. Stock list include a beautiful Blone Naso with its barbs and streamers, Yellow tang, kohl tang, salfin tang, 2 anthias, threadfin wrasse, clown gobie, clown, diamond sand sifter, and mandarin. Corals: mostly nicer sticks and a few LPS. Im running tropic marin salt now, was using Reef Crystals for over 10 years, but constancy was not there.

Well enjoy my build and thanks for reading!

  7. Are these drain pipes or return?  Drain is easy since there isn't any pressure.  Return pipes may be different.  Part of it will also depend on the kind of pump you have and pressure it can generate.
They are drain lines. But I think I found another way to route it.

  8. I also use to use zeovit. I used it for about 3 years. The good thing about it was you were in tune with your tank. Bad news is, that "in tune" took a lot of time every day. Then if you needed a special blue bottle, you had to order it and wait. Between testing, dosing and shaking, it wore me out. You do run a fine line on the edge of no nutrients for your tank. And if you go one vacation.....you better have a tank sitter that knows what to do. Personally I will never go back to zeovit just based on my time availability.

Something else to consider is this https://andremueller.e-junkie.com/
Reef Moonshiners, now I dont have personal experience, but everything I read is getting good reviews.

I think if you start slow with a low dose (lower than what is directed on the bottle and slowly build up you should be fine. Just keep monitoring levels to see when you need to increase or decrease dosages like it was back in the day with vodka and vinegar dosing.
I agree. Start with 25% of recommended dosage for a month, and go from there.....
