  1. Hi all, I have some Kenya trees and pulsating xenias corals frags for trade or if you don't have anything to trade you can have it for free. Please let me know if you are interested. Thanks, Nelson
  2. Hi All, I am moving and I am going to upgrading my 65 gallon tank for a 90 gallon tank. My question is: what should I use under the tank between the tank and the stand? What's the name of the material and where can I buy it? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Nelson
  3. Hi all, I have a few things to give away. 1- Two hang on Bak-Pak 2 protein skimmers 2- A few T5 light fixtures. Some are working and others are not but if you know how to fix them that would be great. 3-One 48" Current Reef LED It's not coming on but if you know how to fix you can have it. If you are interested in any of these things you are welcome to have them. I can bring them to the WAMAS meeting on April 22, 2017. Thanks, Nelson
  4. Hi all, Thanks for you replies. I took out some of the pipes and with the wire hanger checked to see if there was anything on the way. I didn't see or feel anything clogging the pipes. It seems to be working fine now. Thanks for all your help. Nelson
  5. Hi all, Since last night the water falling into the inside tank overflow box was making a lot of noise. Much more that usual. Tonight I was in the room when I saw that the pomp was sending a lot of air bubbles into the fish tank. I got up and went to check what was wrong. The sump's water level was very low and the fish tank's water level was about to overflow. I turned the pomp off and the water level went back down. I used a wire hanger and moved it around the overflow box. Turned the pomp on again and it was doing fine for a few minutes. Then it started to do the same thing again. It was a miracle I was home when this happened. Any ideas on what is going on? How do I unclog the overflow box or the pipe that goes down to the sump? I look forward to hearing from all ASAP. Thanks, Nelson
  6. Hi all, I did a alkalinity check tonight and it has gone down to 248 ppm. Still high but on it's way down. This coming weekend I will do the 15% water change I do every two weeks. Will keep you posted. Thanks all, Nelson
  7. Hi all, I decided not to mess with it. I just watch how much I put in. It's gets eaten by some one over night. It could be the fish, the crabs, the snails or someone else so it's getting consumed. Thanks for all your replies and advise. Nelson
  8. Hi all, Went to the MDRC event today in Lovettsville, VA. I got 15 coral frags and one carpet anemone. Also, I won in the raffle two $25 gift cards, one calcium Hanna tester and a pack of tree types of Rob's Food also including one a pack of algae sheets and one beer cozy. Copps presentation was very good. Looking forward to WAMAS next event. Thanks, Nelson
  9. Hi all, I ordered two packs of frozen San Francisco Bay Brand Krill Flat Pack (16 ounces flat pack). I guess I wasn't paying attention because what I really wanted to buy was the Hikari Bio-Pure Ocean Plankton. My fish like the krill but they are to big for most of my fish to eat. I was thinking of putting it in the blender but I'm afraid it will just make it to liquid that it will not really be useful. Is there anything I can do to make them easier for my fish to eat? Any ideas? Thanks, Nelson
  10. Hi all, I just made a water check and the alkalinity has gone down to 268 ppm since the last water change on March 10, 2017. It was 288 ppm after the water change. I use Red Sea, Coral Pro Salt. I will continue monitoring until is is at a normal level. Thanks, Nelson
  11. Hi all, I made a 20% water change tonight. After about an hour I did a alkalinity test and it went from 300 ppm to 288 ppm. I will continue doing water changes until the alkalinity is at a normal level. How long should I wait to make the next water change? Thanks, Nelson
  12. Hi, Thanks for your replies.I think the alkalinity got this high because I have been using CoralUp and CoralUp B. Since I don't have to many hard coral I guess the calcium wasn't been used as fast I thought. I stopped using it for now. I'm going to send my water to be checked with the Triton Labs ICP-OES Water Test- Full Panel Test Packet. My corals look fine so far. This weekend I will make a 15% water change to see if the alkalinity starts to come down. Will let you know what happens. Thanks, Nelson
  13. Hi all. I bought a Hanna Alkalinity test (PPM). I just did my first check and it says that the Alkalinity is at 300 ppm. I was looking at some charts and I think it is on the high side. Is that correct? What should it be in PPM? If it is high, how do I take it down? Please let me know. Thanks, Nelson
  14. Hi All, Next Friday, November 11, 2016 my building is doing an extermination procedure in my building/apartment for bugs and mice. I contacted the apartment management and asked them to contact the extermination company to let them know that I have birds and fish. I got a letter saying that I need to cover the fish tanks and turn off all the filters while they are working in the apartment. They are drilling between the wall studs to put in insecticide. Also, they asked to put the birds in the bathroom and close the door. I took the day off to be at home but it makes me nervous. I think I will send my birds to my parent's house but I can't move the fish/corals. Any advice on how to best protect my fish tanks? Thanks, Nelson
  15. Hi all, I make the change of fish tank yesterday. I upgraded to a 75 gallon tank. All the fish are doing well and did not lose any in the move. Thanks everyone for your advised. Nelson
  16. Hi, Yes, take it out ASAP. Please read about how to remove them first so the don't release more into your tank. Good luck! Nelson
  17. Hi All, I attended the WAMAS Fall meeting yesterday Saturday, October 22, 2016. The presentations were excellent and I learned and enjoyed them a lot. Also, I wanted to thank Marine Depot for the AquaMaxx media reactor I won in the raffle. Furthermore, thanks to WAMAS for the corals I won in the raffle and the ones I got in addition. i placed them in my tank and they look very good. Looking forward to the next meeting. Nelson
  18. Hi all, I noticed this morning that this pulsating Xenia had attached itself to one of my blue leg crabs shell. It is funny watching a coral move around the tank. Pictures below. Thanks, Nelson
  19. Hi, Thanks for your reply. The 55 gallon tank I am having trouble with is a FOWLR tank. So I will get a simple one. My reef tank is a 65 gallon tank. Today after work I will go check at Today's Pets in Columbia, MD to see if the have tanks and stands and compare prices. Thanks, Nelson
  20. Hi All, Thanks for all your replies. I decided to upgrade to a 75 gallon tank. I have to wait to get the stand shipped to me and I will get a tank at House of Tropicals. I went to see the tanks and they were $132.99 for a 75 gallon 48.5 x 18.5 x 21.5. Is that a good price? Any suggestions on where to get a 75 gallon tank? Thanks, Nelson
  21. Hi all, Thank you all for your advised. The tank was fine overnight. I lowered the water level. I will go to House of Tropical today to see what they say. I think I might have to get a new tank. I attached a picture of the gap that opened up. Please let me know what you thing. Thanks a lot, Nelson
  22. Hi, I just noticed something alarming in my glass 55 gallon FOWLR tank. The plastic rim that goes around the top of the tank slip in the middle of the front panel of the tank horizontally. The split is almost 7 inches long. Does this means that there is to much pressure against the front glass panel? Any thoughts? Should I be worried? What should I do? Should I lower the water level? Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks, Nelson
  23. Hi, I have two types of soft corals (Xenias) that have grown nicely in my reef tank (Heteroxenia polyp and Pom Pom Xenia, I think). I want to frag some to give away for free. Please let me know if you are interested. I can email or text you pictures if you like. I am planning on coming to the October 22, 2016 meeting so I can bring it over if you are coming to the event. Thanks, Nelson
  24. Hi, I am kind of new to reefing. I have had my 65 gallon reef tank for about a year an a half. Most of my corals are soft corals plus three small brain corals, one chalice, and four acroporas. I was wondering if there is someone with experience in reef keeping in the Glen Burnie, Maryland area that could stop by my apartment sometime and take a look at my tank and make recommendations on what I am doing right or wrong, and anything he/she would thing I should know to keep my corals, and fish happy. Thanks, Nelson
  25. Thank you for shearing. Any pictures?
