  1. Yep, psammocora all day long.  I really like mine; it reminds me of a golf fairway (mine only encrusts, and does not branch at all).

yeah, that sounds right, it was glued to a small rock when I got it and now it has completely encrusted the rock and started spreading onto another

  2. Are they regularly shedding skin like a snake? Toadstools do this about every month and it seems to be a part of them growing. There should be no polyps for a day or two while this layer sloughs off. How long has it been with no noticeable growth? Are you doing regular water changes.

Cant say i've ever noticed it shedding, there are days when they dont open however, about once a month, i'd say I havent noticed them grow any for the last 3 or 4 months, I was away training a lot over the holidays so regular WC weren't really happening, hence the GHA issue I am now dealing with. that may be it I have increased my WC vol from 20gal to 30gal every 7-10 days to try and get things back in check and I recently added a BFO Reactor.

Just seems weird that it's just my leathers that aren't growing.

  3. Thanks Guys, I'm pretty sure I got it from Gmerk2, but not positive, whoever I got it from had a large piece of it, i'm looking forward to it growing out, it seems to be getting fatter rather than taller, it's doubled in width but grown 1/4-1/2" in about 6 months

  4. Hi Just looking for some feedback on Leather Corals, I have a couple of different varieties in my DT and although they look healthy and open up every day they have barely grown at all.

I have 2 Tyree Toadstools placed med/high (8" from top of tank) which were growing pretty fast initially but I have seen little to no growth since then. I have a frag of  green Devils hand Coral that is placed about the same height as the Toadstools and again same thing no real growth, I also have a Green Cabbage Coral lower in my tank about 3" off sand bed.

I have tried placing the Toadstools lower in the tank thinking they were getting too much light and or flow but they didnt seem to like it much. I have always had trouble keeping some of the beginner Corals like mushrooms, Kenya tree and Xenia all seem to die off in my tank, LPS do very well my Duncan has trippled in size over the last year, I have some of the easier sps like Birdsnest, Monti caps, setosa's and some neon green hairy thing I have no idea what to call all growing extremely well.

Sorry for being so long winded with my question, just kinda lost as to why I cant get them to grow.

    Thanks

    Craig

  5. Quick update after 2 days of running, everything is working great,  I went ahead and added a ball valve to the return even though the DC pump has an adjustable flow rate, it made dialing it in perfect, the noise is minimal, overall I am very happy with the project.

Thanks again to Isaac, John and Goskn5 and Wangspeed for all the input.

  6. So... No moonlight every night is most important? A period of total darkness.?

I leave mine on all night, it would make sense to turn them off at least when you go to bed, but I don't, in fact due to the fact that mine are cheap LED strips from Ebay that cost $7 I leave them on 24/7, they get washed out by my Evergrows during the day, but add a nice dim blue look for my Coral viewing at night.

  7. OK, so I got everything plumbed up while I was doing a water change, worked out quite nicely, I switched out my 5Gal HD bucket with a 10 gal trash can for my ATO reservoir too, so now I have literally taken up every square inch under my tank. pictures to follow.

Thank you everyone for all the advice and recommendations, I am very happy with the results.

and Thank you to the Guy at HD for telling me that the Flex hose I have been using for the last 2 years will give my fish ich and kill all my Coral, I will hang on to that great piece of advice, along with eating cheese before bed gives you nightmares

  8. ok so I just got back from HD, I got all my plumbing supplies, I have 1 quick question, about the glue, I remember reading a while back that you had to leave the glue set for a few days because it can mess with the water quality, I bought as many threaded pieces as I could, but there will still be 1 or 2 pieces that I should probably glue.

    Any thoughts on this?

I could hook everything up and disconnect my sump for a day or 2 if needed

  9. In the plumbing section near the flex hose you should be able to find a 3/4 T and just add that into the line

I'll take another look today and see if I cant rig something together, I still prefer this Idea over running another pump, if all else fails I will have the DC1200 tomorrow afternoon.

    Thanks for the help

  10. Build a manifold and run it off your return. You shouldn't have to tumble hard to get good results. My cs3 runs on x2 psk1000s and an mj12000, loudest thing on my tank.

so my Majijet got clogged with GHA and burned out,(thought things had gotten quiet) so I went ahead and ordered a Jebao DC1200(the baby one).

I tried looking at the hardware store for all the parts to build a manifold but, I had no luck. if anyone could point me in the right direction with that, I would still prefer to take that route, I'm sure I can find another purpose for the Jebao DC1200.

I found it on Amazon really cheaphttp://www.amazon.com/jebao-DC1200-submerge-Variable-speed/dp/B00MUHH1TY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1422187924&sr=8-1&keywords=jebao+dc+1200&pebp=1422187925993&peasin=B00MUHH1TY

Thanks to whoever suggested that pump, I didnt know there was a smaller one than the DC3000

  11. nice, I picked up a midnight clown from Mat at last years spring meeting and a naked clown from ERC, paired up nicely, couldn't be happier

the golden nugget looks awesome too, I've only seen one 1 time in person

  12. Yeah, well, let's just say that my DIY craftmanship is not the greatest.

you might be able to get one on here 48 x 18 is probably the most common footprint for most of us (at least that's how we start), or maybe someone can build a furniture grade stand for you, it may end up being the same or even cheaper, and that way you can build the stand to fit your equipment/sump instead of buying what equipment will fit under your stand.

Just my 2c, although I love DIY and carpentry so of course it's easy for me to say.

  13. just wanted to be sure it was clear that folks that have evergrow lights from us are welcome to open them; doing so will not violate or null the owners 3-year warranty from us. typically parts are provided free of charge and mailed free to customer to do a quick swap to get them back on the road. the evergrow lights are much easier to work with and infinitely more reliable units vs the shenzhen greensun optoelectronic frequently seen on other sites and on ebay. feel free to PM if you have any clarifying questions - glad to help!

Agreed, I figured the fact that I submerged mine in saltwater voided my warranty, I didnt even ask you guys to fix them as it was clearly my fault, not a defective fixture.

but good point, dont try this at home kids

  14. I bought a cheap LED strip light on Ebay with a remote, it's bright enough that I can see what's in my tank, and allow things to glow.

the light small reef suggested looks a little nicer, mine is cheaper but it also looks cheaper too, if I were doing it on a 20G I would probably go with Smallreef's idea over mine

    I bought this for my 90 http://www.ebay.com/itm/5M-SMD-5050-RGB-150LED-Non-Waterproof-Light-Strip-mini-44Key-IR-12V-2A-Adapter/301121204567?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D28791%26meid%3D57a38f3c10c94b9daa5a0fa22d434c81%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D6%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D371192312554&rt=nc

you cant see it under the canopy so it's not a big deal but I wouldn't want to look at it every day.

  15. Flat aluminium bars they cost about $15 at HD I think the steel ones are a little cheaper, they are easy to bend and you can spray them black or whatever color you decide.

    these will work (not aluminium)
