  1. We've received word that the 1.5" and 2" models are in the works, and we should see them within the next 90 days!
  2. We're investigating 1.5" and 2" versions right now! There are a LOT of us that would benefit from the larger sizes. I'll post more here as it develops!

  4. We're working on getting a demo model set up on one of the tanks so that we can provide some 'results over time' as to how it functions. As for dipping into the substrate, just like the Roomba, the snail learns its route during its first cleaning cycle. You set its parameters so that the cleaning surface never comes within reaching distance of the actual substrate level. You could set its tolerance even higher if you were concerned about a lot of substrate movement in your system. I'll work on getting more of the questions answered once we have our trial model running. Don't worry, the thing will be put through its paces before reviews are released. We'll know its practical tolerances before too long. Regarding the price point... It's the same complaint with every 'first of its kind' product in our industry... look at controllers, skimmers, lighting fixtures, sumps... Yes, the first generation price is exhorbitant. That's just because once the patent expires, every company under the sun will be making them and the market will bottom out. The first company is the one who invested in all of the marketing, all of the research and development, the patent process... They deserve to cash in on their idea long enough to see a profit, or they won't last long enough to bring us the next great innovation. And the price won't stay inflated forever. Competition will drive the price down to whatever the general market demands. It's only the hobbyist who can't wait to own the newest gadget who will pay the initial price. That seems fair.

  11. First off, thanks for being a long-time walk-in customer! We always like to hear from people who were willing to make a drive to get to the shop - it confirms that we're doing things right. We're also glad that you still choose to shop with us from long distance! I would say that any time of year EXCEPT for winter you'd be fine with 2-day. Unfortunately, no matter how well-insulated the box is and how many heat packs can be safely stuffed in without cooking the livestock, after about 30 hours the temperature begins to crash. I was the livestock handler, receiver, and shipper for my entire tenure working at the shop, and in my experience you'd be taking a real gamble. By not selecting an overnight option, you're also waiving the live-arrival guarantee. To cut shipping costs somewhat, you could ship the sand, crude, and rubble via 2nd day (or Ground, if you're within a 2-day Ground zone from Premium - ask a Premium Customer Service Rep to confirm), and the actual livestock via a next-day service. As long as the substrates don't freeze, they shouldn't lose their cure. Sand, crude and rubble are all shipped wet, in sealed bags, so they can last several days in transit without much effect. Another idea is to find a friend who's in the market for some supplies... the threshold for free shipping is an order of $175. Call the shop, and you can discuss the various costs of the different shipping methods with a CSR. By minimizing the amount of water in the livestock bags, using the smallest insulated box possible, and utilizing a heat pack in both the top AND bottom of the box, you should be able to move your snails overnight without any undue strain on your finances. It's all about keeping the weight and dimensions down. Again - thanks for your patronage! We appreciate it!
