  1. Still? How crazy. Traffic was still pretty congested early this morning, but it was flowing along at a pretty good speed. Be safe.

Here is my take on it. It's been crawling since entering VA and there has not been one accident. The road has some good size hills and is really congested with truckers. I believe the problem is their constant slowing going down the hills and then picking up speed going up. They don't prevent them from using the left lane so it lags down both lanes.

They either need to exclude trucks from the left lane or add another lane.

Gawd. Traffic is horrible! Just got onto I-81 in TN. 10 mph. A nine hour drive will become 13+ by the time we're home. d18898a4850e7a2c2658f205711025d4.jpg

I made the same drive up out of Greenville, SC. Arrived home at 2AM, but totally worth it!

81 is still crawling all the way thru VA. It's insane how slow this road is and how long this ride has been today. We still have 100 miles to go....but it was totally worth it to see the total.

we decided to stay until morning for that reason. We are only 7 hours away.

  4. Economic comparison...

Muratic acid- 1 gallon $7 at Lowes.  1 oz (1/128th of a gallon) makes 1 gallon of solution that is 20x stronger/faster than vinegar

Heinz White Vinegar- 1 gallon $15-$20 at Costco

Yes muratic acid is more dangerous and should be handled with care.  I wear the same gloves and protective eyewear with the acid as when I'm handling zoa and palys.

Sorry Dave but costco charges $3.00 for 1.32 gallons Heinz white vinegar i buy it all the time for tank and general cleaning. Its the best bargain ever.

  5. So sorry, Jenn....

    I know...its a bummer...thanks

Sorry to hear, Jenn. It's my least favorite part as well. That or corals that die or stn/rtn and you can't figure out why. That's why I designed my overflow to not accept anything over 1/2".

Worst part is i had a drain screen on for 2 years and took it off about a month ago to clean it and got distracted and kept forgetting to put it back on. I feel incredibly guilty.

man had that same thing happen to my favorite clown a long while back....sorry to hear.

hopefully your remembered to get your kids...my condolences on the fish

Lol i did and when they gave me crap for being late my eyes watered and i told them the story and they felt so bad for me that they were the ones apologizing to me ;)

sigh, sorry!   Just loss my wrasse the exact same way, came home, my emergency drain was working (thank god) and had to pull the wrasse out of the system.  It was not easy, stuck a shop vac on the side at thetank and had to blow compressed air into the drain at the sump.   Broke my heart, he was way cool.  He must have been in the drain for a few hours as he was really stuck and no water was geting past him.

Mine was sucked in hard but it had to have just happened....but he was sucked in sideways and trapped at the very top so i could grab him with a towel easily but the trauma must have been too much for the poor guy. He was a very cool fish....i feel so bad about it.

  6. I couldn't find my fairy wrasse for awhile but i knew it was healthy and fat and figured it was just doing that disappearing wrasse thing they do. Well, was just leaving the house and heard the tank going nuts and emergency drain kick in...took me a few minutes to understand thats what i was hearing and ran down to the basement....i reached into the drain and could feel a fish bent in half and was trying to do a quick roll call but everyone that had been there was....so i ran and grabbed a towel and pulled out the pipe and there was my wrasse...thrashing when I took him out....but you could see he was headed out fast...i held him in the tank in my hands and watched him and his eyes were moving and for a minute there i thought i could save him but if i let go he floated upside down...so i held him there for what felt like forever and tried to figure out my next steps knowing i had to leave right away to go get my kids....but then he suddenly died....im so crazy sad....he was fat and healthy but must have jumped in there and finally got stuck in the drain. I hate this part of the hobby. I really really do.

  7. Welcome aboard! You are going to love the sw hobby and this is an amazing group to learn the ropes from. We have a meeting this Saturday if you are able to attend, with great deals on all sorts of items and a world famous speaker to boot!

  8. LOL...see I a better holder outer than you

Ok...so I was thinking about bringing this down to the tank room from the garage where its been since it was delivered......oh...almost a year ago and opening the box ha ha ha....

what is the depth those that have it have found the best skimming ?  I have the 150 though not 130

  9. Take them along.  Leave them in the local playground with a cell phone. It'll be fine!

Hmmm good point since daughter is 7.... That was the age I believe of that boy...that mom is right. seems old enough...and she can be responsible for the 5 yr old too...what could go wrong?

(I read that article and then looked at my daughter and realized mine will be 27 before I let her go to the park alone) :)

  10. I normally take only one measurement, but I'll tell you what I do:  I use a pipette and draw my water from several inches below the water line in an area with some decent flow. I also flush the pipette four or five times to make sure tha any salt residue is gone. Then, after the test, I wipe the refractometer down to keep it clean.
