  1. Is there any way to upgrade the standard bio cube to be like the bio cube 29 hqi? I already have the oceanic bio cube 29 and oceanic protein skimmer. I have also done the nano tuners 4 pc bulb upgrade as well. How ever I would like to switch to the new lid with the metal halides. Is it possible to just switch tops from one to the other? if so where can I just purchase the lid/lighting? In turn if that is possible I would like to sell my kid/nano tuners lighting upgrade. thanks Jason
  2. Sorry to hear about your fish. :-( Thanks everyone for the input. Ihave a diamond goby and a scooter blenny in there as well. Hope my condylactus wont eat them :-( Maybe I should turn it in. Its deff grown about twice the size it was from when it was at petco when i got it. The water I use is from the marine scene. I go there and get 5 gallon jugs when ever im down in ffx. I live up near winchester in stephens city so id like to find a good place around here if anyone knows any.
  3. ALSO one more questions. Is it ok to turn off ALL lighting in the tank over night or should I always run the night lights?
  4. Hey guys just a few questions. I currently have red alg growing on top the sand and im looking for something that would take care of it as well as move the sand around to keep it clean and fresh looking. Any suggestions? Also I have a 29 bio cube up and running with 2 false clowns and have a anemone but they wont host to it. Any suggestions on to get them to host with it? Also if for some reason they wont host with it is it possible to have 2 anemone's in the same tank? Or would I just be asking for problems? For cleaners in a 29 gallon tank how many hermit/snails/crabs/star fish maybe to help keep things nice looking and alg pretty much free? thanks for all the input. -Jason here is a picture of the current setup.
  5. great info. I just did my weekly 10% water change, 30% a month. I will pick off the hair alg tomorrow by hand and keep in a eye on it as well as maybe a little less feeding, as that could be a issue as well. What do most of you feed you anenome's? Ive been using brine shrimp and using a long set of tweesers to get it to the animal so that I wont be stung and that my clowns wont eat it before it gets to it. Any other methods work for you ? please let me know.
  6. Hey guys moved up to Stephens City VA, a few weeks ago and have had my tank going since. The live rock/Sand came from my other system. I wanted to do a clown fish system. It currently has 2 false perca's about 5-6 hermits, a emerald crab, 2-3 snails, anemone. My question is I currently have Red alg taking over and I even have green hair alg as well. What can I Put in the tank that would take care of the alg and id also like to do something that would keep the sand clean because thats getting dirty as well. Any help would be great. Here is a pic or two When tank was setup a few weeks ago... Current
  7. Yea. don't plan to. Clown fish and maybe a firefish goby are pretty much going to be it for fish. Really just want a clean looking reef.
  8. Just wanted to say thanks to Brian Ward, I was asking a few questions on here about the bio cube 29 because I think that is going to be a good way to start a decent looking and thriving tank. After talking multiple times with Brian about his setup he offered to sell it to me as he already has 2 120 gallon systems going. After asking for more details and getting it setup with his modifications he has done (more lights, skimmer, ect) I was ready to buy. Brian we a great guy to do business with and so far has pretty much told me what I need to get it going. Cant wait to get it to the new house and start it up shortly after. Thanks again Brian for the bio cube 29. -Jason p.s Hopefully one day to have it look like this. or maybe 1 day.
  9. Hey Jon, I added it about 4 days ago. :-(

  11. Hey guys, having a problem with my new coral. I bought it from fins and feathers (no not saying they are bad I like them) The frog spawn coral I got from them looked very well in the tank I picked it out from. I brought it home, did the normal water transfer to get it use to my water as well as temp. I put it in after the normal transfer and with in minutes it released its slime coat, With in a hour it was pretty much sealed up. I thought maybe it was just unhappy. I did a 20% water change, everything seemed normal before I did the water change and even after but yet my frog spawn seem's like it has died. Its all white and sealed at the cap's. Can it be saved or am I really just out of a nice looking addition to my tank? My other soft coral is doing very well. It was before and even after, the frog spawn how ever not.
  12. Added last week from Fin's and feathers 1 emerald crab. Has been doing very well. Today im adding a few snail's/Hermits and a yellow watchman goby also from fin's and feather's. Will take pics later tonight.
  13. Hi Evan, thanks! I would love to get those from you. I also have added a actinic light as well as a power head as well as a few other things (pictured) and some not. I also have red mushroom's in the tank as well. This has been going for a little and so far everything seem's to be doing very well. I might have to upgrade as you were saying, last thing I need is to nuke the tank lol. On to the update/pics. HOPEFULLY ill have something else new in there in a week or two. But for now its really nice to look at with the normal lights off and the atanic lights on.
  14. Hey guys. what would be a good thing to ad to start? thinking of adding some mushrooms or something like that. any advice would be great
  15. Update: Tonight, went and got a night light and got a power head to improve circulation in the tank. Plan with the nano is to run mainly smaller/softer coral. From there Id like to have a emerald crab and your normal hermits, and a turbo snail and 1 fish. Nothing crazy. Just a real small reef tank. So far its looking nice. hopefully ill ad some soft corals in the near future. (no not tomorrow) lol.
  16. Pretty happy to come home from work today. My girlfriend and I had our 3rd year annv today and she knows im dieing to set up a tank. Were moving in a little over a month from now so she got me this to get me started. Came home and had a Tom Deco Kit 3 for me. She then surprised me and took me to Marine Scene and said pick out some rock and sand and anything else you may need for now. So ended up talking to the guys at Marine scene and getting 3 lbs of figi rock and some live sand. Got it home and got everything set up. Cant wait to see this thing in full action on my desk at the new house going strong. Sorry for the cell phone pic. You get the idea though.

    Bio Cube

Hey guys, Just starting out as some of you know. Been going to marine scene a few days a week getting some info, real nice people to deal with. They say the bio cube is a good way to start a reef tank. How do you guys feel? thanks jason
  18. Hey guys my name is Jason. I am looking to try a small 20 gallon salt water tank to start. I would get my foot in the door so to speak to salt water. Have had plenty of fresh water tanks but now im looking to move up to much nicer things. Reason I'd like to start small is to see if im ready to spend the money needed to set up a 125 gallon tank like id like to do in the future. Right now how ever im just looking to run 2 clown fish and see how it does and go from there. With this said what all would I need to establish a 20 gallon tank and what all is needed daily or weekly to maintain a proper tank? thanks for all your help! -Jason
