  1. Is there a selling and buying forum on WAMAS for hobbyists? I know there used to be a dedicated forum here to do that but I can't seem to put my finger on it now. Thanks!
  2. Kudos to BRK store owner John Bianchi for his commitment to customer service and for standing by his product. I recently purchased a Deltec APF600 skimmer from John and brought it home only to find a crack in the skimmer body 3 weeks after purchase. John could have refused to facilitate an exchange but instead he worked it out with me and the Deltec dealer to provide me a new body for the skimmer. To all of you who are considering making your dry goods purchases online, think first about going with Blue Ribbon Koi to help build your system. You will be better off working with John knowing that you have a knowledgeable and reliable partner who will do right by you. One last thing-- If you haven't yet made the trip to BRK, go there. It is a wonderful Koi / Marine / Garden Center situated on wonderful grounds just outside Manassass, Virginia. BRK is worth visiting.
  3. Hi, I need an external pump for a closed loop on a 120. There is a one inch drain and two one inch returns in the back of the tank. I will also have a return line going over the top of the tank. The pump needs to be quiet. I am planning a mixed reef tank. Any recommendations? thanks Kyle
  4. Hi, So I completed all of my plumbing for a 120 gallon DT with 30 gallon sump, including an in sump skimmer. I am doing my water test and the skimmer is producing no foam. Instead it is producing large bubbles in the skimmer body. Any ideas? thanks Kyle
  5. wherever you go you should call ahead b/c sometimes supplies are pretty limited. BRK seems to have pretty good selection and they are a very nice store.
  6. how big? REALLY big, or big. Or just kinda big.
  7. What type of pump is recommended for a closed loop on a 120 gallon? gph rating? pump brand?
  8. I have an Oceanic 120 about 5 yrs. old. I am thinking of drilling two-three holes in the back. I do not know whether the glass is tempered or not. There is a corner overflow with three holes already drilled. Is it advisable to drill a tank like this? I am thinking of setting up a closed loop circulation system. thanks!
  9. thanks... can you put the vho or t5 bulbs in a power compact ballast?
  10. yes i am referring to 150 Metal Halides.... to clarifty 2x150 metal halide bulbs plus power compacts in a 120 gallon reef tank 24 in. deep. Is this lighting sufficient for corals? which ones? thanks!
  11. I have a 24 in. deep 120 gallon tank. I want to set up a reef. Is a 2x150 watt plus power compact lighting system sufficient? What type of corals will I be able to grow with that set up? thanks!
  12. Hi, Can anyone recommend a resource to learn more about proper stocking sequence and livestock requirements in terms of lighting, other equipment, water parameters, food, etc.? I am setting up a 120 gallon reef. Thanks!
  13. Using your example would't the high mark be 8" not 12"? If the overlow adds 12" of water to the sump when the power cuts out, then the maximum amount of water you would want to have in a 20" sump when the pump is running would be just under 8", right? Am I missing something?
  14. I had the same experience. About five or six staff people standing around chatting amongst themselves behind the counter and at no time did anyone ask if I needed help. Finally after 45 minutes in the store I asked for pricing on a new 75 g setup only to find their prices about 50% higher than other quotes I have been getting. I won't go back.
  15. Roozen's rocks. What other fish store can boast two 5,000 gallon sumps, many more hundreds of aquarium gallons, and 1,000's of pounds of live rock to keep the water adequately filtered? And as far as the algae and aiptasia? So what? What does that have to do with water quality or quality of life for the fish? Nothing as far as I know. And for the dead fish? What other fish store doesn't experience die off when they receive their livestock? I have to believe that they all do, it's just that they make more of an effort to keep them out of sight from the customer. Obviously the guy is not there to keep a show tank with ozone, u/v and all the other techno gadgets common in the hobby. He is there to provide an abundant, varied and healthy supply of livestock for the marine hobbyist without a lot of overhead or extra cost. I rather like the Roozen model.
  16. Anybody know that pros and cons of starting with dry dead rock from a source such as macro rock?
  17. dr. mac's prices are 5.99 per lb. i thought a source for uncured might be cheaper. plus i have six weeks to kill while i save some money for the rest of the equipment...
