  1. Alright, here we go. Third time's the charm. This is the image of my blog as well as the caption. The blog is www.oceanicbasin.blogspot.com if that's easier. This is my design for the new Sump Fuge. The water will flow into a collection of live rock to act as a further biological filter as well as to reduce salt buildup and reduce noise. From there is will enter into a protein skimmer (MSX 160) and overflow into the refugium. The fuge will have a base of live sand, with a few rocks and macro algae to skim out phosphates and other materials. It will also house the heater and a powerhead in order to have the water moving in a circular, as well as linear, current. It will then overflow into a cooling area, and from there into the return to be pumped back into the main display. The sets of three lines are called baffles. They reduce micro bubble build up and also help to keep small critters (snails, hermit crabs, etc) from escaping and getting caught in the filters. The lower series of baffles will have teeth, whereas the upperseries will be flat. The refugium will have a light on top as well, and I am considering adding a UV sterilizer if costs allow it. I will also be overhauling the plumbing on the main tank by changing my overflow to a CPR CS100 to allow for constant overflow, and I will most likely be changing my return line to standard PVC (or clear acrylic) with notches cut into it to allow for even water distibution throughout the whole tank. That was extremely small. Let me try this one: Apparently I am inept at loading pictures. It's located at my blog, latest post. www.oceanicbasin.blogspot.com

  4. I'd like to show my pics for my sump design. I have no idea how to attach pics to a post. Any help?
  5. I'm afraid that with the return in the sump the way it is (the acrylic is cut diagonally) the water level would be too variant for comfort. That was my original idea.
  6. Just added my location to my profile. I'm located in Georgetown. I'm afraid that if I build it myself, it will not be as efficient as one that is premade more than anything. I can definitely squeeze out a weekend in order to do this.
  7. I currently have a Proclear Aquatics Pro 150 Series Wet/Dry filter for my tank. I have been thinking about this for a bit, and I think I want to change over to a Sump Fuge. Obviously it would be easier for me to buy one already made, but is it better for me to build one myself? Is it cheaper for me to do it myself? I found one that I like: the Aquafuge Pro Large. Anybody know anything about it? I have a 90 gallon tank. Recommendations as to what course to take? Money is less of an issue than time, although if the project is doable over the course of one weekend or two weekends, I can manage. Thanks in advance for the help! Depending on recommendations, I will be asking more questions.
