  1. I have a glass 75 gal. tank and would like to drill for a close loop, but I thought glass tanks over 5 gal were tempered and you can not drill tempered glass tanks. Is this true?

someone suggested using polarized glasses but what would I be looking for?

  2. So i just set up a 28 gallon tank in my house & because its kind of small, i want to also set up a sump... generally smaller than the main tank. Any suggestions on where i can get me an inexpensive sump? Also, i may need help or guidence on how to connect it to the main tank...

How do you know if you can drill if its glass? I have a glass 75 gal, and I thought all tanks above 5 gal were tempered?

  3. I think after you saw what was on the do-it-yourself threads you came to the same decision, that I did. I will be having Jeff make me up a frag tank when I get the money together. I've seen his work and it is great. So is his price.

Yea, my wife is always calling me "Tim Allen" because I like to tear into things and make them better. And sometimes it doesn't always works out, then she has the satisfaction of being right, and since this tank will be on the 2nd floor...you know.

  4. I've thought abou it several times. If you can get someone to sell and cut the maerials and/or you have the right tools & skills go for it. I figured that I didn't have any of the above and would probably end-out having to say "lets try this again" and spending a bunch of money...

I ended-out having Jeff @ Pimped-Out-Aquariums do a custom tank for me. Great piece of work. Just look up NAGA under the members list above. Try a PM & EMail. I gave him my design I did in MS Paint and he gave me a quote and we agreed to go-ahead with it. I'm working on the freekin stand every freekin night now. Wood, screws, & glue is much more forgiving to a weekend warrior with none of the right tools & skills like me.

I think building is half the fun. I'm pretty good with the tools, but phisigs79 does have a point. I've PM NAGA and he's given me a reasonable price for what I'm looking to start.

  5. If you like to make things yourself like I do, there are a lot of do-it-yourself threads on the internet that tell you how. They even tell you the ins & outs as to how to prevent making major mistakes.

Thanks, I'm googling right now....when I should be working....can you say hooked

  6. Hey, you live out where my aunt is :)

I would recommend having NAGA making the tank for you. Finishing acrylic edges and seaming so it is strong, clear and most importantly water-tight forever is a fine art. I can't imagine that tank would cost much at all.

As far as building the cabinet, go for it. I like building the frame and then purchase cabinet face only components to finish the outside. Plan the size of your sump, lights, and components so you can build the stand large enough to hold it all. 22" wide is a tight spot to fit everything.

Do they have a web site? I tried googing NAGA and came up with some climbing club.

  7. I'm looking to possibly make my own nano tank. It would be 22" wide x 17" deep and 20" tall using 1/2" acrylic/cell cast. And building a cabinet large enough to accommodate skimmer/pump etc. Any thoughs out there?

  8. What are the dimensions?

    ----------------------------------

The foot print is 20"x6"x9". The drain valve sticks out 3" on the 6" side at the top.

I'm not ready to start purchasing equipment just yet, but I will keep you in mind,

The size is right for my stand. Thank You for the offer.

  9. I'll give you a real good price on the one I have.

    What are the dimensions?

i had a couple of cold ones, and maybe a couple of warm ones too. anyway, tang refers to my forum status. with 200 posts i became a tang!

    im a tang now!!!!!!!!! woooooooooooohooooooooooo!!!!!!

I know its late and I've had a couple of cold ones.......but What are you talking about?? :drink:

  11. I used to use an EV-120 many years ago. Don't waste your money. Buy a GSA. You won't find a better skimmer for the money anywhere, and you'll be supporting a local manufacturer.

Several people are saying the same thing. Thanks for your advice

2nd that!!! look on the shorty review forum to see my skimmer in action. it will handle just about anything that a 100g tank can hold!

    10-4

Who is a local rep. for a GSA skimmer?

  12. I am using the AquaC EV-120 myself. I can not say I am happy with it. I have to constantly adjust it, which is a pain. I am saving my money to upgrade to a GSA.

Thanks, I will keep that in mind.

  13. Two Things,

When Shopping for skimmers, do you size for your tank size or total water volume within the system? and the foam that collects at the top, How often should that be cleaned off?
