  1. Try www.aquacon.com by the time you receive it in the mail its pretty much uncured. I used them and the rock was pretty nice. They have free shipping. $129 for 25lbs of Fiji Premium. The also have 5 or 6 varities to choose from.
  2. I'm sure alot of you have already ventured to Fredrick MD to visit Mr Coral. Wow! what a store! Always a good deal to be found! They started a program for kids a month or so ago giving them a free $20 coral frag for every A on their report card. I have three kids in school and their grand total of "A"s came to 14. I thought that there was no way we were going to walk out of there with 14 free frags so I called to verify that the email and post was accuate. Sure enough it was. So, I tossed the wife and kids in the car and took the road trip to Mr Coral. What a day to go! Buy one, get one free on coral. I made a few purchases and the kids picked out their frags (I only took two of the kids, the third kid was out with friends). I felt like I just robbed the place! My two girls recieved a total of 11 frags, I picked out three pieces for my self, bought a horseshoe Crab and two snails and some glue. Total cost $149.00. I LOVE that store. I still feel like a criminal getting away with the booty. If you haven't been there, go tomorrow or sometime soon. Just keep in mind. The owner doesn't have to have all the steals and deals so PLEASE...dont go in there and take advantage of the situation. The report card deal requires no purchases to be made but like the post says, "how can you go in the store and not by something" Be fare, be kind, and buy something so that these good deals keep coming our way.
  3. I moved to this area about three months ago and discovered that my MH (Aquatraders product) light fixture won't work any more. I assume the ballast got beat around during the move so I opened it up and all appeared to be in order so then I figured some component went bad. Soooo I decided to go with a cheaper light fixture seeing that I needed a quick fix. I decided to go with T5 HO fixtures. I started my search and found this fixture: 48" 216W (4-54 watt) Quad T6 Fluorescent Light Fixture (W/B) So Im thinking "huh T6 HO lighting, must be something new" and at $79 "into price" I'd be stupid to pass that up. So I bought two of them and slaped them on top of my canopy. They looked really nice at first. Now it seems the brightness is fading and I dont think the bulbs are HO. These lights seem to be bright enough to suppoert corals because I have a few frags in the tank that seem to be doing fine (1 finger leather, 1 Tosdstool, Zoo frag, and a small frag of Birds nest...which is showing signs of growth) the problem is that after three months the only algae gowing in the tank is green. So I am suspecting it has something to do with the lights. Water chemistry is in acceptable ranges. So now I am looking for new lights. I want to go with T5 HO. Any recomendations or suggestions? Is there a LFS any would suggest that has prices comparable to online prices? So far I am thinking of getting one of these fixtures: Current Nova Extreme Pro Saltwater T-5 Fixtures Current Sundial T-5 Canopy Light Fixtures Nova Extreme T-5 Fixtures w/Lunar Lights Any comments on any these or sugestions and/or links to other types would be apreciated. Thanks
  4. I recently moved and when I started setting my tank back up I discovered that my light fixture no longer works. It was working when it got packed and it shows no signs of getting beat up. I suspect the ballast got damaged. The fixture was purchased about two years ago online from Aquatraders. I has 2 175w MH and 2 96w CF. Unfortunately Aquatraders does not sell replacement parts for this fixture. If anyone has any suggestions as what the problem could be, please let me know. It is not my bulbs because I packed them myself in a wood crate stuffed with bubble wrap. I am considering swithching to T5 or T6 HO lights. What would be enough for a 75G tank? What types of corals could I keep with this type of lighting? Im currently looking at replacing the MH with two 216w T6 HO fixtures. Each has 4 54w bulbs and 6 duel LED moonlights. In addition to these I plan to continue using the 2 36w T5s that I currently have still in operational condition. Sorry for the long babble filled post but as you might have guessed, this whole situation has me ticked off to no end. Any help/sugestions would be appreciated. Thanks
