  1. I've had it when the cheato started dying but that was cause it had been in a jar in my car for 3 weeks. very strong stuff. Don't let it get caught in your rocks, I had to bake my rocks to get it out.

  2. The typical outcome is they die within a few months without proper feeding I stole this quote from another forum.

I'm going to guess that you are talking about "flashing" scallops, Lima scabra. Although these animals are called "scallops" they are not related to scallops by anything other than appearance, and are really file clams{scallops swim "forwards" while clams swim "backwards"}. Their care is identical to that of the flame scallops. In laboratory experiments, researchers found that plastic beads of the size of phytoplankton{5-10 microns} were ingested at the same rate as the phytoplankton themselves, but beads the size of invertebrate larvae{100-200micron} were rejected by the clams. Unlike most studies of invertebrate filter-feeding, addition of phytoplankton to the medium did not affect bead ingestion rate, and in this case, the animals actually seem capable of selecting particles directly by their surface flavor {which is why pea flour and yeast-based aquarium products probably fail at keeping these animals alive}. The primary prey of the animals were invertebrate larvae, and ~75% of larvae were consumed in a given trial. A good diet of mixed phytoplankton and enriched rotifers ought to be appropriate for keeping these animals, but I would suggest staying away from the typical aquarium "invert foods"
  3. Maryland needs to take lessons from Florida on how to rig up power infrastructure to withstand these "storms". I can count the number of times on one hand in FL that I lost power long enough to need a generator, and two of those were from Cat 3+ hurricanes. Up here, it seems like we lose it whenever a front rolls in.

I think the biggest lesson Florida could teach is have a army of power trucks with full crews waiting. Last time a hurricane came in the power company took over half the walmart parking lot and another half of another larger parking lot. They staged up ready to work after the hurricane passed. I'm not sure if it's a question of build, but more like man power.

  4. I loved my Pistol shrimp and yellow watchman combo in my old 29 gallon. Also a Pygmy Angel or Pink Skunk clowns might be nice.

    was my favorite fish..

or a Flame Angel would be cool.

I had considered a nano seahorse tank as well.

  5. I'd agree 2 Part was a good way to control your Calcum and Alk, this should keep your pH at normal levels. I'll usually use 2 part to get my tank where I want it. Then use Kalkwasser in my topoff to maintain the levels. After testing I'd determine how much of calcum and alk to reach my desired effect.

This is a FANTASTIC calcuator for calcium and alk adjustments! It will tell you how much to dose, of course don't dump it in all at once. It even has explainations of what's going on with your tank chemistry wise.

You can even make your own 2 part, http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-02/rhf/index.php So I would say it is cheap, but takes a little on your part to make sure dosing is correct.

  6. Good to hear you have the situation under control. What caused the leak?

Thanks for the offers I ended up getting two 100 gallon stock tanks a tractor supply.

Im still in shock not sure what im going to do next but all is safe for now

    Thanks

    Jim

  7. I saw some guy a while back in my old reef club took a bucket out and pour some kind of acid in it and would drop pumps and such that need cleaning in it. after a while he would pull them out looking brand new. He poured some on cement and it stared to bubble up. anyone know what that stuff is called?

  8. besides that, have you looked for parasites? Redbugs got pretty violent with a friend of mines tank till he treated it. So yeah I'd start running large amounts of carbon just incase it some kind of toxin something let out when it died and water changes. Doing this saved me from RTN well I also dipped my corals in Lugols Solution. Hope you can figure out what's causing this or at least stop it by doing the water changes etc. I might be available Saturday night and definitely all day Sunday if you need some extra muscle.

  9. Sometimes ya got to step back and look at all the electrical wires going into a salt water tank and wonder if whoever put this together is suicidal. Then realize it was you that did it. :drink:

  10. Not sure I just kinda eyeball/winged it. when something like that happens, maybe dump 5 gallons and put 5 gallons of RO in. maybe in 1 gallon increments testing the water after it's had time to mix up. if it didn't do enough rinse and repeat.
