  1. I have a 55 gallon aquarium back at home with mushroom coral, 2 clownfish, a 6line wrasse, a fox face fish, and 2 fire gobies. My parents just called saying that their power went out earlier today and the blackout buster had just gone out. I've read to put bags of warm water into the tank to maintain the water temp, however, because of the power outage, theres no hot water. They are also snowed in, therefore, we cannot go out to buy a battery powered wave maker for oxygen. I am currently studying in Hawaii so all I can do is instruct my parents what to do. Please help! Thanks~
  2. one of my ocellaris clownfish has a weird red mark under its left eye, around the nose area. it looks kind of like a scar but under the skin-- internal bleeding-like. what could it be? and what should i do? i dont have a picture b/c it the red mark doesnt show up in the pix.
  3. apparently im in hawaii right now so im not with my tank. also i did attempt to take pictures of them but they were just too small and fast for me. so pods swim o0?
  4. i dont think they're snails. they are free swimming and have black eyes. right before i left to hawaii (which is where i am now) i took a peek in the tank after having the filter on for about a day & a 1/2 they all moved to the other side of the tank & they were just twitching around, so not alot were sucked into the filter. i thought they were shrimp babies @ first but then the didnt look like any of the shrimp babies my shrimp have had and they looked very similar to little itty bitty fish so... i dont know. so should i stop the filter?
  5. about 2 days ago i looked into my new 75gal & noticed a lot of little white stringy dots that, sorry, but look like sperm then i took a closer look & noticed that they look a lot like little newly hatched fish. sorry i attempted to take some pictures, but theyre too small. im actually in the middle of cycling my tank right now so all thats in it is about 30lbs of liverock, about 2-3" of livesand, & 3 airstones, no fishies/inverts. im assuming it came in the liverock because im leaving to hawaii tomorrow (yayyyyy ), i didnt know whether to put the filter in or not, but i decided to put the filter in. anyone have any suggestions on what should i do before i leave/when i get back? or where/how those hatchlings got in my tank?
  6. so im setting up a 75gallon fish-only tank. i have a large cinnamon clownfish right now & am bringing home 2 occellaris clownfish from my internship cite (since the semester's over). if i put those 3 in the same tank (the 75gallon), will they be alright? or will they fight :\?
  7. Oooo thankyou thankyou ill look into those Just wondering, whats wrong with the brand i have? I think its Topfin or something...? Is it bad?
  8. Really? Thats funny because just yesterday i was a little worried about it since the water temperature got a bit too warm for my liking, but the setting on the heater was set pretty low. Im actually going out to buy some stuff for a new tank I'm planning on setting up. Any suggestions on good heater brands?
  9. thank youu, cliff!! that sounds like the perfect plan. now i can get that bugger out out out
  10. R . I . P . my banded coral shrimp, that ive only had for about 3 months died :( my sister woke me up this morning saying that it was dead, but when i went to look, it actually just molted and the 'dead body' she was looking at was its shedded shell, so i said that it was good. buuuut then i saw in the back of my tank a chunk of its new body legless, clawless, and lifeless, took it out & there is was... deadd it was because of a gorilla crab that ive been trying to locate & remove!! it killed and ate my shrimp while it was naked and vulnerable!! so sadd :( how do i find & get rid of that gorilla crab? I WANT HIM OUT!!p
  11. so im guessing i should just turn back on the filter and stuff then huh? wish i brought my 6line wrasse home from my internship aquarium today to have this tasty treat xD rather than let it go to waste in the filter. i have a feeling my banded coral shrimp's going to get fat =p
  12. according to one of my books, strong light bleaches coral. so maybe your light's too strong...?
  13. my pregnant peppermint shrimp accidently jumped in front of the wave maker and it blew half a belly full of hatchling off her!! so i turned off the wavemaker and filter for a little while and here are the little babies now (btw the last 2 pictures were under a magnifying glass): im excited b/c it was the first time i witnessed something like this now for a little question: i feel bad if i just let them get sucked & blended by the filter so should i try to keep them alive? or will they just die off neways?
  14. Ok so i have to check to see if theres enough nutrients in my tank. the site where i ordered my xenia from said to put it on a 'slanted rock' so i did & there were rocks around it to spread on, so i dont think that was it. i hope it was the shipping that was the issue rather than my tank =\... yea let me know when you come in the area. hopefully i will have better luck with your xenia. thankyouu~
  15. Thanks guys Yeaa i plan on setting up another tank soon so hopefully the xenias will like the new one better...? I live in n. potomac, md by the way. Let me know if anyones in the neighborhood~ good advice i was starting to get bumbed since people offering xenias are in va or dc... not local xp
  16. found this a rather big one of these in my tank at my internship site and a smaller version at my home aquarium... may i have an ID for this little bugger? and maybe some background info on it? click for a little video i took of it (sorry if its a little blurry)
  17. Thankyouu & thanks guys for the advice But apparently my xenia did end up dying :( Oyyy... =\ Hopefully ill have better luck next time..~
  18. heres a picture of my xenia last night and heres a pile of polyps its going bald :(
  19. i was just looking around online and i saw on another forum, someone had the same problem with their xenia. one of the members who responded said... 'I saw a posting on another site saying when they are stressed, the hands will separate from the stalk and grow on another location. I think this is a survival thing with them.' is that true?
  20. thanks bob yea if mine doesnt then i think i would like to try the 'get it from someone local' thing. but since my xenia's not dead yet, is there anything i can do now to help revive it? or just wait to see if it gets better...?
  21. ok so i just moved the xenia lower in my tank since you suggested low-moderate light & low-moderate flow & it was under a bit higher light and flow. while i was moving it, i noticed that some polyps were falling off... is that normal too o0?
  22. i just got a red sea pulsing xenia from vividaquariums.com yesterday & acclimated it with drip method & everything. so this is what my xenia looked like last night... and this is what it looks like now... should i move it somewhere else? or should i just wait a little longer b/c i know its takes a few days for some coral to get used to an aqarium. im just checking to see if its alright since its my first time ordering coral online. thanks~
  23. im thinking about giving my rocks a quick freshwater bath to get rid of some bristleworms, will that get the bugger out too? & how long should i do it for?
  24. i have a emerald crab and it doesnt look like that. this crab is actually pretty big. maybe... an inch...? not hairy, pink with a bit of black at the tips of claws. seems kind of feisty too o0... really? alright i have to go look for it now xp any tips on how to get them out easier?
  25. was staring @ my aquarium after school & saw that my banded coral shrimp got startled a lil. then from behind it, i saw this crab. can someone ID it for me? & whether i should take it out or is it alright to leave it in?
