I don't know how available the skimmer I'm using is, I think it was discontinued the year before I got it, and it's not quite the same dimensions as the newer K1 Nano (I think that's what it's called), which may not fit - the fit on this one is tight as is.

I actually wanted a Tunze 9004 DC (I think the 9004 fits, worth checking measurements to be sure), but at the time I was looking there were still basically no Tunze DC skimmers in stock, I think the stocking has improved and the shortages are lessened, so that may be an alternative that needs no jury-rigging.

Thanks for your advice. i will do some experiment as well. ~

  2. I c. i tossed out Red Sea skimmer and wanted to get some alternative. I will do the same that you have..
I took out the filter media as well. I wanted to have simple system with mechanical filter sponge and then skimmer and out let.
( i will have two out=let with other pump)..
here's my setting now. just live rock and the light~..
I will put sand from  my current set up (93 gallon)..

Looks like the remnants of a bacterial bloom - probably consequent to the die-off. Is there any record or evidence of an extended power outage? Was everything mechanically functioning when you returned (pumps running, etc.)? For a small tank with relatively low surface area, maintaining surface flow is critical to keep oxygen levels up. The other thing you've noted is that if you have something like a BTA start moving and wander into a pump, it's remnants can trigger a bacterial bloom which raises oxygen demand that, if not met, can also trigger a die-off. It's a vicious cycle.

From personal experience, I know how disheartening a crash can be; how coming home to the sight and smell just drags you down. I'm glad that you're looking beyond that now. That's a big step. Good for you!

Yeah. Very sad but I will  rebuild it from here. No give-up for sure!..picture right before the trip .

  4. After coming back from SFO trip, my tank got bombedwith something to do with water and RBTA exploded i guess. Tried to revive by 50% water change..it didn't help..

Few more water changes still not helping almost all sps gone! About 20to 25 pieces.. more than half are big colonies. I kept the Oregon  for 11 years and bonsai for 13..so sad they are gone..

Luckily, all fish alive few soft and LPS.

It's finally stabilized with big loss aw! But will keep at it!!!

  5. getting one more LED. GHL Mitras LX 6 light.

I used 2020  Aluminum Extrusion screws/t nuts to hold the frame. It's bit complicated at first but once I get the parts. It was not that bad. Trust me, if i can figure this out anyone can do it.

Hopefully I can get more spot than one light..
