I went the melanarus wrasse way about this, and while I still see some, their numbers severely diminished. Eventually, I'll probably do an interceptor treatment, but idnk, none of my corals are giant colonies, and if the wrasse can keep them at bay, then maybe thats OK too. Most of this stems from my total laziness and not wanting to remove my snails, shrimp and crabs...
Dragon Face Pipefish are known to chomp on them also. Melanarus wrasses are great and safe....get brave and try some camel shrimp.

Sean, I noticed this a bit too. Why not have a set of clipboards where you can keep a printout of the current list of numbers/prices/info that a customer can pick up and carry around with them as they browse.

Feedback is good. Please keep in mind folks that we have only been in business for less than five months. It is amazingly hard for us to keep our store in the condition that it is in, keep healthy fish, and corals coming and going so fast. Many times pieces are selling before they are inventoried
I also run a very busy service company that is growing with the store that takes up alot of my time. We now have a full time manager that will definalty take heed to this post. It is the reason why I hired him and we hope to make improvements soon. I am trying hard not to have the "grease pencil" look that is very popular. We have thought about a "menu" of sorts or even a computer screen above every tank with numbers and such. Funny that this post has surfaced, I had a long meeting with my staff about this Saturday night! I am shooting for a quick fix by the next social!I am only 40% where I want to be and this is the slow time of the year! There are many great things to come! Thanks for the feedback and Im glad to see that with only a few months in business we are respected so well.

I'm going to order a 4 bulb T5 retro kit for my Mom's 90gal. I was set to go with UV lighting bulbs, but now I hear so many people being happy with their ATI bulbs, I figure its worth getting some additional advice. I'm ordering from reefgeek.com that has all the major bulbs in stock: Giessman, UV lighting, GE, and now ATI, so I have LOTS of options. I had done a bunch of reading a couple years ago when I had my old Aquatinics fixture, but with so many options now, I have no idea which bulbs are the best now. I figure the growth bulbs are all pretty much the same, but which Actinic bulbs are the best?
I'm looking for the 14K-20K look. I was going to go with two of the UV Super actinic, one Aqua blue 14K, and one 12K actinic white. Now after a search on here, I see people are liking the blue look from the ATI Blue Plus and/or True Actinic.
This new "Pro Color" bulb sounds pretty interesting. Its not recommended by itself, but in combination with other bulbs. Looks like its mainly for color. Has anyone used these before??? Its a softie tank, so coloration is more important than PAR ratings.
Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

One of my service clients just came across the worst news that a father can learn. His two year old little girl was diagnosed with a brain tumor. She has been given very little time and is undergoing treatment (miracles do happen). Her father is involved with a volunteer organization, Reef Relief (www.reefrelief.org). He is passionate about conservation and captive breeding. As a show of care this is what I propose.

red bugs

Red Bugs are running rampid in DC. I hear/see more people with problems with this little critter everyday. I know of a huge local display tank that is infested with them. One reason that I dont take trade in's is this reason. I dont wanna be at risk. One bug and sales, flush!!!! It is hard enough keeping the store AEFW free as infected as the bali stuff is these days!
We have had good luck using interceptor as a preventive. There is talk that a major supplement company is coming out with a Red Bug pill.... I will announce the news as soon as I get info.
I recently had a discussion with a local sps keeper. He states that he uses a short quarantine on all new additions to his reef. A 5 galllon bucket, A heater, A small Powerhead, Aged Tank Water and a 6 hour interceptor bath. Not too involved and Red Bug Free!
The germans are controlling coral paracites with camel shrimp. A small aquarium plumbed into your reef. Place your new coral in the tank for about 15 minutes with about 10 camel shrimp. They will devour any hitchikers. Monti and Zoo nudis, Red Bugs and Flat Worms.
