  1. Thank you tony. I have never calibrated my pH probe in 2 years so checked tank with salifert it was good. Here's a lesson learned. Calibrated my refractometer is was off by 6. My target is 1.025 so it was actually 1.031 and I'm guessing this also is part of the reason ii have lost a ton of frags the last few months.

Recommend adding a pH probe to your shopping cart.  In my experience, pH probes begin losing its accuracy after 18-24 months.  Also, calibrate probe with calibration solutions of (pH 7) and (pH 10).  For pH probes used inside CaRX, use calibration solutions of (pH 4) and (pH 7).

  2. System is now 90% stocked, added two Aussie Elegance and two Croceas.  I have a number of fish in quarantine, but not nearly the amount I wanted at this time.  Acquiring certain Cirrhilabrus have been more challenging that I expected.  SPS were collected from WAMAS members, Unique Corals, Reef Raft, Battle, Cherry Corals, WWC and Rocky Mountain.  Some areas of the reef is reserved for "must have" items, such as the Fox Flame.  The system is eight months old and I am excited on how it is progressing.  Below is an image I took yesterday to mark the beginning of the growth phase, which means I adjust the chemistry, lighting, and feeding regimen to encourage the corals to grow like weeds.  At some point, the next phase, color, will be implemented.

Finally, I want to give the WAMAS officers and volunteers a standing ovation as they did an excellent job hosting MACNA.

    Fallback OFF
If Temp > 77.7 Then ON
If Temp < 77.6 Then OFF
  4. My fish bio load is very low.  Six fish with a target goal of 20-25.  All my efforts were focused on acquiring SPS and I am 90% stocked (55 corals).

My dosing regimen maintains nitrates at 2.5 ppm.

  5. Mix standard solution.  100 grams of Potassium Nitrate (KNO3) with 1 liter of RO/DI water.

    100 gallon water volume

1 ml of solution will raise nitrates .16 ppm

10 ml will raise nitrates 1.6 ppm

20 ml will raise nitrates 3.2 ppm

    300 gallon water volume

1 ml  will raise nitrates .05 ppm.

10 ml will raise nitrates .5 ppm.

20 ml will raise nitrates 1 ppm.

    Sources of KNO3

Home Depot.  Spectracide 1 lb Stump Remover, $6

Green Leaf Aquariums. 1 lb, $3

    Science Company.  500g, $15

  6. Provide more information about the room the tank is in.  Adding a chiller may be counter productive.  How do you plan to remove the heat in the room generated by the chiller?
