  1. A possibility, though I found no wounds. The purple tang has become very territorial in his little area during feeding. Even though he stays in his defined area because the yellow tang wouldn't let him go anywhere else - he would go after the yellow if it got too close. And the hippo tang has gotten so big and fast and clumsy, he might accidentally swim right through another fish (or coral, or anything else). When I was examining him, a little bit of blood did come out of his gill, but hardly noticeable.

So your yellow rules your purple, thought it was the other way around.

  2. When they get big, they will steal foods from the Chalices and sometimes Acan. That is if you feed at night and only if you have chalices and acans. I used to save them. But now, I am regretted. There is no way I can kill them all.

On the one hand that might be why your tank is so clean.... ;)

Maybe you can get some kind of wrasse to take care of them. I have a yellow coris wrasse that hunts all day long and can spot them in a clump of algae with ease.

  3. darn.....now that is a lot of flow....not sure i can stomach buying 3 of them. one was bad enough. maybe i could sell my tunze's to pay for an MP10 to supplement the other side. I am really liking the no cords look to the tanks...you have any pics of your tank?

Having one MP40 and supplementing the other end with another type of directional pointing pump(s) would let you hit different areas as desired.

  4. I would go with the MP40 if you know somewhere down the line you will be upgrading, plus you could always dial it down. I have one MP40 at one end of my 5 ft. tank with two koralia 3's at the opposite end pointing in diverging directions at the opposite end. I think it creates a nice turbulence hitting many areas of the tank.

  5. Dang sorry to hear about that...you had some of the best stuff in your tank.

I just took a 2 month break from the reef world as I was ready to get out of the hobby due to work, family, and AEFW. Until 2 days ago I had not done a water change since November (top off only), I added no Alk or Cal, and did not clean the skimmer. I did many dips, proberbly too many, I lost most of my SPS. Here are SOME of the corals I lost

  6. Thanks Dave! Great sizes on the abalone (for me at least, not so much for food patrons). I'll talk to Amber and get a list to you.

Good luck with the octo ID - they change textures and colors so much it can be pretty hard from what I've read. Is this the start of a new reefing trend - going to the ethnic markets to find livestock?

You can get part of your cleanup crew there as well, saw some snails a few times I went.

  7. I have 4 PJ's that have been easy to care for. They tend to school together and my Ocellaris clowns have been less territorial with them in the tank. Why? I think because 1 of them is rather large! It's bigger than my female clown. LOL! They are very peaceful fish but can defend themselves if really needed. If nothing else, the larger 2 tend to pick on the smaller 2 a little. They do swim fast and don't seem to mind getting in there to get the food. The one set has survived a tank crash (The other 2 came after.) HTH.

I know they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I think as PJ has gotten larger it looks less attractive. When it was smaller, it was a desirable fish to me.

  8. if a buy falls through then my choices are the following, anyone have good or bad reviews? I dont understand the micorn filters they use, i am asumming they are basically the same. Any help would definitely be appreciated.

AWI TYPHOON 5 Stage RODI Reefkeeper 75 $160 shipped with WAMAS discount

AWI is great, many times I have called with questions or when something is not working and they are very responsive and they will replace anything that is faulty no questions asked.

  9. Hey Lynn,

when you got this, was it always green or was it more yellow. I also got a piece from dell but mine is yellow with dark polyps? It hasn't turned green yet.

Someone on reef2reef was discussing this coral and said that under high intensity light that it will actually turn a yellowish color. There are tons of green/purple corals out there, sounds kind of neat to think what it might look like with a yellowish body with deep purple polyps.
