just remember to seal the entire tank at one time, it creates a solid seam that is much less likely to leak. It worked great on my 155 bow!

go with a community tank, they are much more flexible down the road, not to mention more fun to watch

if you haven't done anything yet, you might want to look into roll on truck bed coating. runs around $10 a quart,
and when applied properly it creates a flexible plastic coating that is completely impervious to water as well as scratch and rip resistant. if you are interested, i have some left over from my truck bed that i would be willing to give you.

caught my neighbor trying to put some trim boxes up on the side of his house the other day, the only thing he didn't notice was that the panel was 2" higher on one side than the other. maybe he was going for the least square approach ?

20 or 24 isn't much of a difference , it only becomes a problem when you step up to 29 " in which case you will be up on a step stool with your whole arm in the tank.

I prefer to make my own stands, much sturdier. the mass produced ones tend to fall apart after a couple of years anyway. Usually when I make my own, it ends up being around half the cost of the others, and that is at stock cost ( I work at a pet store) and that is for a nice cabinetry style stand as well.

usually the sterilizer will run in-line from you return pump or off of a powerhead or something of that nature. water flows through, gets sterilized, and is then pushed back into the tank.

was just thinking about this the other day. might work if you use those pump jacks that you can lift you entire car with. still risky, but i think it would be a real cool idea.

I did double check the mitre saw and although it is measuring at 90 degrees to the cutting surface I'm not so sure that it is. Next step is to check my right angle! Maybe that's why I can't build straight things!
speed square or framing square, the carpenter's best friend. $5 well spent and tons of time saved.

you might want to take all the screws out of the top section, assemble it on the stand and then screw everything back together. most of the time when working with lumber from home depot or lowes , all of the boards have a slight warp to them, and when you assemble the frame,the whole thing will be off in one corner by 1/2 an inch or so. it also helps to check your miter saw to make sure you blade if perfectly perpendicular to the cutting surface, even if it's off by 1 or 2 degrees, the whole stand will be out of whack.

small hippos are generally a bad idea, they look fine for the first couple of days and then they just pop off.
