  1. I think they have many benefits in marine tanks.

Yes why? I have had one on the tank but recently noticed the UV bulb was not coming on. Before buying a new bulb (assuming that is the problem), I would love to hear the Pro's and Cons. It would be informative...Thanks, Dave

  2. I dont know if the fish will eat it. I have it in one of my frag tanks, it has no Tangs in it. I think i am going to frag a piece off and put it in the tank to see if they bother it. As soon as it gets a little bigger i will PM you about you getting a piece.

    Sweet! Thanks

  3. I have two MP40W's. They move a lot of water and take up little space inside the tank. I had a few problems initially that were solved very quickly by their customer service department. These were mostly early design issues that needed correction. They need regular maintenance to keep them clean, but mine have run quietly and smoothly since.

Good customer service...really? Hmmm...I emailed them a couple of questions/concerns/problems several days ago and have not heard back. I have two first generation MP40's with the following problems.

    1) Rubber mat that goes on the dry side is disintegrating on both. Holes have worn through. There new online parts store does not carry them.

    2) One of the units has started to slip down the outside of my tank which eventually causes the whole unit to disengage. The wet side falls on my corals...the dry side rattles against the glass until I hear it and fix it. It just started doing this about a month ago...I have no idea why...it happens about once a week.

    3) The other unit is noisy as heck. I have it oscillating between high and low flow and its "whir/whine" is very noticeable and annoying. The second unit...the one that falls once a week is completely quiet on the same setting...go figure.

    4) Programming instructions are not very clear. Perhaps they fixed this on second generation units.

Overall I like them...and want to stay with them. I just wish there customer service would contact me...

  4. I have had the same problem. From time to time outlets on the DC 8 appear to go bad. They start working again when I unplug the DC8 and plug it back in again. I have had to replace one DC8 in the last 5 years because outlets just stopped working...likely due to corrosion or something like that....it was in my sump room with high humidity and salt.

  5. I find that my socks help filter out micro bubbles and "polish" the water for me. They also catch larger pieces of debris and lots of teeny tiny serpent stars. Here is my problem. Does anyone know where I can find good quality socks? I bought some from Johnny at BRK about two years ago and they have held up. Everything else I have bought since then has failed. The stitching gives way after a few uses. Can someone point me to good quality socks....please....

    Thanks!

  6. My favorite has always been a diamond goby. Beautiful fish, constantly sifting sand...sand is always pure white...they have always eaten PE mysis to supplement for me.

+1 for the Diamond Goby. My guy works all day every day from one end of my tank to the other. I have had mine for a couple of years now...

  7. It's an experience everyone should try at least once and then make up your own mind whether you like or dislike the place. I have had great luck (3 Blue Assessors for $58.00 ea, all lived) and bad (Small Blue Hippo Tang priced at $88.00 in a "Pull the price out of my Ars" moment from one of the non-Germans). The set up (a series of green houses), tank stands (wood that looks as if it has weathered a 1000 Nor'Easters), filter systems (I have no idea if they have them), live rock ponds, gravel/dirt floors makes the trip to Roozen's at least one time worth it. They do get fish you never see anywhere else, although I wish they would get Gem Tangs again as I would expect their prices would be less than what I have seen them for over the Internet. You do look at the tanks and atmosphere and feel like you should quaranteen. Some of the tanks have detritus, expended rubble, snail shells 6 to 8 inches deep, and mystery stuff that is truely scary and makes you ask "What might be living down there." I have never seen a good coral selection the 3 - 4 times I have been there, but I just may have bad timing....JMHO...Dave

  8. I recently purchased 2 - 48" Reef Illumination MH/T5/LED light units for my Reef Tank. I have had them about 3 months now and have noticed better coral growth and color over the Aqua-Medic's they replaced. Plus - the LED's make the tank "pop" at night...really cool.

My only complaint with the Reef Illumination units is the distance between the two MH fixtures in each unit is a bit more than most lights. On my tank, where they run end to end, this concentrates the brightest light at either end of the tank and directly in the middle where two MH's fixtures (one from each light) come together. I can definitely see where the coral is growing better in these three locations (left end, center and right end) over the middle left and middle right of the tank....

So...I think I would like to supplement the light in these two areas but don't know if I should go with T5's or LED's. I am thinking about two 36" 54 watt units (2 bulbs ea)...one for each side of the tank...

What do you think? Any recommendations? I appreciate the help....

  9. What are the other fish in the aquarium? I assume you tested your water parametrs already right?

Water parameters are all good. Other fish are too numerous to list...Tangs, Gobies, Anthias, Flame angel, Wrasses...about 40 all together.

    I did a 10% water change yesterday...

  10. I am not sure what's going on with this little guy. But for two days straight he has been racing around my tank from one side to the other and back. Almost at full speed. No one is chasing him. Totally out of character for him. Honestly it is as if he went crazy....Any ideas? No way he can keep up the pace he is going and live...

All other fish in tank are acting normal.

    Dave

  11. Thanks Troy, if I do get the equipment I will do yours for free! lol... maybe you can do the fish tank repairs for me?

I wouldn't make much off of the tanks but if you imagine the amount of glass out there and how much of it gets etched or scratched... traditionally you have to replace the glass... now you can polish the scratches out!

The fish tanks would just be one of many markets... but obviously the smaller tanks would be cheaper to replace... but what if you got a new $1500 starphire tank and scratched is when putting it on the stand? Then $150 is a very small price.

I would be interested in the service...I have what you describe...an expensive starphire tank. It has two small scratches that have bugged me to no end. Most people wouldn't see them. My eyes go to them every time I look at the tank. I would gladly pay to have them removed. However, this seems impossible with a fully stocked up and running tank. Nice idea...I wish...

  12. There are supposed to be only three plugs on the 4' MH/T5/LED Reef Illuminations fixture: one runs the LED's, one for the T5's, and one for the MH's and the fans. I will be sure to have Aquacave correct their descriptions.

You will also need to correct your User Manual...Page 3 under Power says: "There are four power power cords 2- Metal Halide Lamp, 1 T5 Lamps, and 1 LunarLite LEDs."

  13. THE ORDER IS HERE! Steven Pro Personally drove it down from New Jersey Last night, got here after close! Give me some time to sort through it and check it in, but it should be ready for pickup later today. I will be contacting anyone that has incomplete orders....95% of it is here accorsing to the packing slip.

    john

OK, what am I missing? According to the owners manual and several on-line sites (e.g., AquaCave.com) the Reef Illuminations MH fixture is suppose to have 4 wires/plugs exiting the unit... 1 ea for the two MH's, 1 for the two T-5's, and 1 for the two LEDs. The unit I picked up has three wires/plugs.

Steve - can you please explain... Thanks.
