But intentionally planning to bury an entire coral reef? That's where I think we absolutely have to draw the line. And so I'm writing to ask you to go to the newly updated ReefGuardian website's Speak Up section (http://www.reefguardian.org) and join the many scientists, groups and concerned individuals that are calling for a stop to Japan's intended burying of Henoko Reef in Okinawa. Eight hundred and twenty of the world's leading coral reef experts from 83 countries have signed a resolution calling on the governments of Japan and the United States to immediately abandon their joint plan to construct an offshore airbase atop Henoko Coral Reef. You can help the effort by signing the citizen petition on the newly updated ReefGuardian website's Speak Up section (http://www.reefguardian.org). To build the airbase, plans call for a massive landfill that would bury significant coral reefs that support more than 1,000 species of reef fish, marine mammals and sea turtles, a diversity of marine life second only to the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. Will you remain silent while this happens? I think not. Rather, I think I can count on you to speak up in defense of Henoko Reef by signing the petition in the ReefGuardian website's Speak Up section (http://www.reefguardian.org). Thanks so much for caring, ALEXANDER STONE Executive Director ReefGuardian International *************************** http://www.reefguardian.org

michaelg September 1, 2004 Author Share September 1, 2004 Are they actually making that thing? I hope they go bankrupt before even digging the first posthole... I can think of a better place for them to put their biosphere! Go to the link above that I posted and read the details. Area is habitat for 4-6 endangered species, all for the sake of making a MILITARY Airbase. The other 2 that were made (already have some) both had major ecological impacts from oil spills, etc...
